Yeah Vernon is far from you. Geez sorry about that head. That sucks. I hope you went to GC and told them about it. I did search the site but could not find an answer so i just figure that when I get it I will find out for sure. Then i can post it and solve the mystery.
Thanks!

No, I just sold it someone else and told them what happened, not worth the trip back to GC. Good luck with that!

Ok. Got it . played it for only a few minutes but I like it a whole lot so far! Ok.
NO. You can not run both inputs at the same time. The Rivera M and S series is like that. Other Rivera amps might be this way too.
The two inputs plugged in at the same time makes a nice squeel like a pig and i mean LOUD. not functional. it is probably wired like the Rivera where the Hi Input and low input are tied together somehow and when the Hi inut is plugged in it overrides the low..... or something like that. Anyway. short answer is don't do it!

I figured I would leave the LP in the high input and the Strat in the low input. I guess I won't do that now!

Sorry about the delay but I've been out of town! In reply to DonaldDemon's question about the ProMod's new clean channel, I hated it at first because I had the gain turned down, on the Hellcat the "vintage channel" starts to break up as you apply gain, but on the Pro Mod clean, the gain just adds charactor! I turned up the gain and It was MUCH better. The cleans on my Hellcat remind me of an old Fender but the new Pro Mod clean is an even closer comparison because it has so much more bass. I played it for the first time with my band last weekend and they all thought it was a much better sounding head for clean and distortion!

I would highly doubt you meant blackface or silverface cleans. I would love to hear a clip if possible.

Yeah, I actually have an old Fender silverface bassman 60 watt head and it reminds me of that. The new clean channel is exactly that, clean. At practice, I had the volume pretty loud and the gain turned up and it never hinted that it was about to break up. Something else I have done to the amp that I think helped the overall sound of both channels is to change the preamp tubes. When I got the head it had JJ's 12ax7's and I changed them to Tung-Sol 12ax7's. Because of experimetation in other heads, I found that IMO the JJ's seemed dry and sterile and the Tung-Sol's seemed much more harmonic and musical. Our band is working on recording some music so if I get a clip I'll definatly post it. But I play Christian Rock, so I have to have a really clean channel and I am very happy with the amp. I'm actually suprised myself because I was on such a Cornford high that I thought I would never even look for another amp and now, sadly, it's setting on the floor, all alone!

Cool, thanks for the review. Now I really wish I had the new clean channel! I changed my Pro Mod to all Tung Sol tubes as well. 6550 power tubes and 12ax7 preamps. It sounds smoother now, I like them. You might also want to try and mess around with some low gain or NOS tubes in V1 for some more clean tones. As far as I know, the the new preamp slot is only for the clean channel and doesn't affect the gain channel. If that's the case I would throw and NOS 12AT7 tube in there for some more warmth.

So I got to play around with it some more and I absolutely love this amp. I plug into the low input and the clean channel is just fine IMO. It has a nice war character to it. In the neck position of many of my guitars with Humbuckers it cleans up really great and is totally usable.
Even in the low input with the gain around 5 (12 o'clock) it rocks just fine.
Now I have to find someone closer to me that has the updated version to a/b it to see what the hubbub is all about.
Do the gears make that much of a difference?
I think the gain of the one I have with the KT88's is killer.

Hey, I have a new promod and the gears do make a big difference. To my ears it just seems like a better pollished tone to it. I have been going back and forth with preamp tubes to the point that it's getting insane. I keep going back to the stock JJ's. It just seems that Scott voices these amps around them and they just take better to it. I am a huge Tung-Sol 12ax7 fan, but in the promod they dont react as well as the JJ's. I was thinking of trying the Chinese 9th generation in it next.

If you ever feel like coming down to the Brick area you can bring your amp to our practice space and we can compare gain channels. I have never heard the old 2 input models either. Unfortunately I don't have the new clean channel though.

They seem slightly smoother and less aggresive to my ears. I was thinking of going back to JJ's but I think I'll stick with the Tung's for now. I tried some Chinese tubes and wasn't impressed.

I tried the Chinese out today and they seemed to thin the amp out some. I think the JJ's suite the promod the best. In my Cameron modded uber I like either a JJ or LPS. In my 2 Marshall's that Cameron modded I like the Tung-Sol in the V1 position. I guess it's just what sounds best to you.
