Anyone know if there is a way to mod the pre-updated clean channel splawns so that the gain knob on the gain channel doesn't effect the clean channel?

acoustic simulator maybe???I had one and it was pretty cool.Do you just want to make it sound better or make it cleaner.Does it break up pretty bad? Yeah, it breaks up pretty badly. I always use a clean boost in front of my amps, so that doesn't help matters either. The gain channel is to die for, but the clean just isn't, well clean... How about truning off the clean boost when you switch to cleans? I really don't have much of a problem with my cleans breaking up and that's with my Strat or my LP. I get a little grit at live volumes but I actually like that. I really don't have a use for super cleans. Now I'm not saying I like the clean on my Pro Mod. It's Ok, not horrible but certainly not enjoyable either. I have played Riveras for a while and their clean channel spoils you. Someday I would like to hear the new clean on a Pro Mod though. I have the same dillema too. Do I upgrade to the new Pro Mod or just get a Nitro? I think I will just get a Nitro eventually because I don't want to get rid of my Pro Mod.

I can disengage my clean boost for my cleans and it does help. The only problem is it creates a tap dance for me.

One of the things that kind of burned me is they came out with the clean channel update only 4-5 months after I got my ProMod. If I had known it was coming I would have waited.

Which boost are you using btw? I use the RC Booster it it kicks ass. One of the things that kind of burned me is they came out with the clean channel update only 4-5 months after I got my ProMod. If I had known it was coming I would have waited. I hear you, I probably got mine around the same time. The only thing is I got it used so I can't complain too much. I do wish I waited just a little longer though.

If Scott could mod the PM to the new specs I would have it done, but I know he said he can't (or won't)...what to do, what to do...

I tried a handful of OD's but I soon realized I needed a clean boost more than an OD to get that extra push w/o fookin the tone. The RC Boost delivers perfectly. I see you have yours up for sale now. I can't say anything about VHT because I have only played the Pitbull 50 and wasn't too impressed. I think the best bet for anyone looking to upgrade their Splawn clean channel is to just order a new one and sell the old one.

I just bought a Pro Mod used on ebay with the new clean channel and I am EXTREMELY happy with it! I had been playing a Cornford Hellcat and I thought I had found tone nirvana, but at loud volumes it seemed to need some more bottom end. I definately have plenty of bass push with the Pro Mod! I'm playing it through the Cornford 4x12 cabinet loaded with Hellatone 60L's. The Cornford was pretty transparent as far as gain goes so I had already been obscessing about my technique! By the way the Hellcat is now for sale! :

I would love to have the new clean channel on mine but I don't know if I could sell my amp because I love it too much. How do you find the clean to be? Bass push will NEVER be a problem with the Pro Mod, that I can assure you! I never go above halfway on the distortion channel's bass. Let's see a pic if you have one!

Newbie here. I snagged a proMod this weekend off of ebay from a member of this forum. I hope I dig it. I have owned a bunch of High end amps including Lee jackson, Riveras, Soldanos and Boogies, Marshalls... etc. right down to Peavey and Sovtek Migs lol.
It doesn't have the gears or the updated clean but that is cool. I am a 6550/kt88 fan so it should be right up my alley. Anyway, First post here.

It looks like you owned similar amps to me. I had a Lee Jackson Ampeg VL-502, Rivera KHR, Dual Rec, JCM 900, etc. Once I got my Pro Mod I was done looking for my amp. I have never owned KT88's but I dig them. I have Tung Sol 6550 in mine now and I like them too.

Actually I bought pageplayers pro mod. Kt88's and 6550 are my favorite tubes. Ihad a VL 502 as well.. lol. And a Lee jackson xls1000. Hey, do you know if I can plug into both inputs and use a switcher between the two. The head I bought has the 2 inputs and the Heyboer tranny's. pageplayer had it listed in the classifieds here as well as on ebay. It does not have the 3 modes or the clean channel revision but I like a gritty clean so that suits me fine. Is there much tonal difference betwwen the older versions of the Pro mod head and the newer? I also live in NJ too.

I actually don't know if you can switch the inputs like that. Mine is the next version with one input and the gears but no clean channel upgrade. I've heard that the newer versions have a slighltly smoother gain but I don't know how true that is. Other than that the only difference is the clean channel. You might want to ask pageplayer if you could do that though. How did you like the VL502? I thought it was pretyy crappy and it was my first tube head but mine also had some issues with it.

I am in Vernon. Heh heh... The VL502 was my 2nd tube head. It was ok for the time it was made around I guess. It had a nice hi gain sound but it hissed really bad. The Lee jackson Head hissed too but was much nicer sounding and the build quality was much better than the Ampeg. I have had the chance to pick a few up cheap and passed multiple times so I guess that says something. They had a bunch of tranny problems with that series. They also were put together really sloppy and many caught fire do to the inside of the tolex trimmings hanging down on the tubes and.... well you can imagine the rest I am sure. I did like the hi gain sound but the clean channel sucked and the mid sweep knob was useless to me. The half power switch was cool.
Pageplayer was not sure either... I guess I will find out when I get it! Not a big deal if I can't switch between the low and Hi input, just thought it would be cool.

I noticed the volume was very weak for 50 watts (I had to crank it to be heard abd it would hiss like hell). I took it to a tech and he told me it had caught fire at one point and the carbon build up was kiling the power draw. I wish GC would have told me that when they sold it to me but then again they probably don't go through their amps either and had no clue. The high gain sound was decent for 80's style rock but that's not what I play. You're right the clean was horrible and all the different mids knobs were useless. That amp was built like garbage. Vernon huh? That's far from me. Sorry I can't help you about the inputs but if you do a search here you should be able to come up with an answer.
