I still have a 100 Watt JMP Master Volume -- a 1981 I think. Although I'm a satisfied PM owner, I'm thinking about selling it to fund a QR purchase. I'm selling a lot of gear right now, so I'm thinking about reinvesting... There goes another one to the QR side. It's cool that happens quite often. While I love the way the QR sounds I think the Pro Mod is more my style. What makes you want to switch?

I have a Quick Rod in which a extra resistor was added, retubed with KT88's and rebiased to essentially make this a Pro Mod. Does it count?

I really wanted to hear the EL34 difference. I thought the PM might be too bright, which I why I was leaning toward the EL34 amp (I always heard they have a darker tone). For me, it's no contest. The overall tone, clarity, and gain voicing on the PM kicks ass!! I'm calling off the tone quest!! This is it!! The only other amp I'd consider purchasing is another PM as a backup.

Good to hear man!! Glad you stuck with the PM. So the EL34's were brighter than the PM? I would think so because the PM sounds pretty dark to me. I was considering getting a Nitro but I think I will still like my PM better. Someday I will upgrade to the new clean channel though.

How does the pro mod sound on the high frets? Does it get thinner than the quickrod?

Another ProMod owner here. Mine is the version just before the updated clean channel. That is my only complaint. I may have to sell it to get one with the updated clean channel. I really need a cleaner clean channel. That is the only thing that keeps me from using it more often live. I use my VHT UL (I love this amp too) because of the clean channel mostly. I have thought about getting a Nitro, but I got away from the Low-Mid voiced amps for a reason. I wish there was something I could do to clean up the clean channel on the ProMod I have without backing off my guitar volume/changing to neck pickup, etc... Any suggestions?

I always use a clean boost in front of my amps, so that doesn't help matters either. The gain channel is to die for, but the clean just isn't, well clean...

How about getting your hands on a good used Roland JC or a fender and A/B ing it?You could have the best of both worlds and also be able to combine them with the right A/B switch.Just a thought.

I have thought about that, but it's just too much to carry/setup to gigs. I will probably wind up selling it and upgrading. My only problem is I have my eye on the new VHT Sig-X too and if I got money I don't know which one I would snag. I would hate to be without a Splawn though.
