I have a good chance to sell a marshall 2-12 cab saturday. I was thinking of replacing it, with a splawn 2-12 cab. Here's what I want to know. They make their cabs out of thicker, better wood, better joints, so their cabs are heavier right??? If so, they install one handle in the top of the cab for lifting, and carrying it around, instead of one handle on each side right? Does'nt that make moving these harder? Anyone that has one, and or knows about this, please let me have some input. That way I don't have to call them again, and bother them about the little stuff. THANKS!!!!! Also, chime in if you have the new oversize 2-12 cab. ;D

I had one of the older Splawn 2-12's and it was awesome. Everything was tight and the one handle was fine for moving it around.

Well I have 4 4-12's so I didn't exactly need it. What happened was a dude in California needed it right away at a time when Splawn was a bit backed up.. so I took the one Scott sent me and sent it to him to help out.. I just never ended up getting another one, but I probably will sometime.

I just sold my 2x12 with Governors. it was a mid heavy cab and was pretty directional. heavy too. the handle on top did make it hard to carry. now im gettin the OS 2x12 with casters so that won't be much of a problem.

From what I understand, the original size 2-12 cab, is sized, like a mesa 2-12 cab, and the oversized 2-12 cab, is sized like a marshall 1936 2-12 cab, only 1 inch taller. I just don't know if I get the oversized cab, if I want the panel at the top ,covered in tolex. I just automatically, think of it looking like a combo marshall, sorta blues breaker looking. They say they can cover the whole front, in grill cloth ,just lika a marshall. Iguess the last question would be, if I got the oversized cab, do I get the open back, or the closed back? What do you guys think the difference would amount to, in sound, and tone?? One way, or the other ?

I'm all about closed back cabs as well
what's the 'advantage' of having an oversized cab? I had a mesa oversized and it sounded horrible...coulda been the speakers or the amp..but it sounded way loose and flubby

Ya,, +1 closed back! for reasons Dirrty Craig mentioned.
I like my OS 2x12, v30/H30 mix.. I like the bottom end it enhances. and it seems to pronounce the woody cab thing. When the amp is cranked the bottom end is huge. it is a little looser that the 4x12/2x12, which some peices it works great. it doesnt sound flubby at all. it holds it together. I like the cab.
It has handles on the sides. none on top.

Thanks for the help, guys. Shredder, what splawn 2-12 cab do you have? With what speakers? I have the regular sized 2x12..he wasn't making oversized or open back cabs at the time..but I woulda stuck with the traditional sized closed back anyway I had celestion CL80s in there..hated them....they sounded great in my buddy's THD cab, but cruddy in mine..so I replaced it with weber 1265s and it sounds great!! very big sounding

Shred; Not knocking Scott's cabs but the AVATAR VINTAGE 212 kicks ass too and you get your choice of speakers. I love mine! $358.00 & You can't beat this deal. I'm getting ready to order the Vintage 4 X 12 they now offer. Something worth checking into as an alternative if you want to save a couple hundred bucks. Well I did'nt sell my 2-12 marshall cab, but I did sell a marshall JCM-900 head, that I wanted to get rid of. Go figure, anyway, I picked up some cash,725.00, made some room, in the old studio, and got rid of a head I never played anymore. Cool for sure. Anyway, I still need to order the splawn cab, I think just like the tube situation, Shredder and I disscussed, the splawn cab will complement, the splawn amp head. Scott and the guys, use a certain tube, likewise, they build a certain cab, atleast, they do have a good speaker assortment option. Yes, I definately will, buy the splawn cab, hell, I'm going to buy 2 of them. ;D
