Hell yeah baby I'm on team shred! Where are my purple pants??? I don't think it's bad if you play fast. There's a time and place to play fast. When that time comes, why not play fast? You guys better gear up (old school soul punx) Once Shredder, Craig and I come up with our 3 guitar finale onslaught there won't be much crowd left. You guys might want to open the show just so you know you'll get the chance to play. LOL!!!! I'm ooooooooooonly kiiiiiiiding!! dude, where the hell are you getting these avatars? first it was you, then it was james brown, then a strung out nick nolte, now the cavegirl from Land of the Lost? LMFAO... yeah, if they don't open up we'll use up all the notes....IN THE UNIVERSE lol

well put it this way...i've learned that randy/evh aren't shred...i've also learned that shred is impeliterri/yngwie/gilbert... ...if so, i'll pass.... you know who's a great 'shredder' who doesn't shred all the time? marty friedman.. symphony of destruction...that's not a very 'fast' lead at all...sure, alotta classical type arpegiated stuff goin' on there, but he's going a mile a minute the whole time....that's what I dig... impelleteri as fast and fluid and whatnot, that he is..gets old, cause phrasing takes a back seat to crazy arpeggios and such... yngwie's the same way..he used to be more varied back in the day, but that well's run dry...

Yes I for some reason have a photographic memory of senseless information. I used to watch that show "Beat the nerds" I think that's what it was called. I would win almost every round. Especially when they started on the Star Wars trivia.

Those that can shred ......do...those that can't...criticize...Anyways...the way I look at it...We all have a set of "tools" that we work with....if your tool box is "limited" then..you can only get so much work done but...if you constantly add to your toolbox by learning different things whether it be a basic blues lick (done convincingly) or the most intricate of "shred" type thing then...do the math...more tools equals more fun and sometimes profit in the long run...and like I always say....The best guitar player is the one having the most fun!!.....At any skill level that's not a true statement though...just because 'one' can shred doesn't mean that he will or should...I can pick REAL fast maybe faster than anyone here...SSOOO WHAT! should I pick fast? ....should I make-up tunes that show off my bad dude quickness?...why in the world would I do that? other than to 'show off'...I'm not into music to 'show off' and I'm not impressed with those that do....that is really it... why must guitar players turn the instrument into a wiener contest? put em back in your trousers boys...theirs more to life than 'better man' contests...especially guitar playing... I can't say it much better than that, thanks jim. There's a point where you're making music from emotion and then there's a point where you use music to show off. I don't care for the latter because music has greater possibilities than a c*ckfight.

this is easy...there are 2 basic worlds going on here: A) the 'speed/sweep/shred' gang and then the B) 'blues/soul/feel' school... I have yet to hear REALLY awesome tone from group A (outside of Kotzen, but I would place Kotzen in group B)...the rest of the A crowd could just as easily been playing a solid state Crate amp...(and some were...).....the amp/feel HAS to be musical, instead the emphasis is MORE toward 'look at my technique' than the actual sound/feel. Group B is where I live, the amp and guitar have a live 'feel' to it, the actual collective 'sound and feel' are what is important, the 'licks and technique' are in the background, secondary at best.... if you are more A? that is cool, I'm different...if you are more B? that's cool I'm more like you then...thats all.

I think the two groups are wrong....they should be as follows:
FOS EOS
Friends of Shredder Enemies of Shredder

I would actually put EJ in group B. I think he has great feel and TASTE! While we're talking about tone...I am listening to Robin Trower Live in Stockholm 1975 and holy god that is some beautiful tone!!! I mean that is some of the best blues/rock tone I have ever heard! I have heard people talk about specific live albums for holy grail of tone (ie. Allmans Live at Fillmore, Hendrix BOG, The Who Live at Leeds) but I think this tone kills all of them! His playing is pretty good too
