I think we should start 2 bands; The Purple Tiger Wankster Revival (craig, shred, Tj) and The Old School Soul Punks (me,jimbax, nofx?) anyone else is welcome to join. We will go on a national tour (europe has bad taste) and tally the reactions. Who gets heckled and boo'ed more and who gets chicks/complimients more. We can settle this with a Rock Fight! uh oh..this is going back into Australian D*ck Wrestling territory again =D I don't have anything purple OR tiger by the way..lol

Those that can shred ......do...those that can't...criticize...Anyways...the way I look at it...We all have a set of "tools" that we work with....if your tool box is "limited" then..you can only get so much work done but...if you constantly add to your toolbox by learning different things whether it be a basic blues lick (done convincingly) or the most intricate of "shred" type thing then...do the math...more tools equals more fun and sometimes profit in the long run...and like I always say....The best guitar player is the one having the most fun!!.....At any skill level

I think his point was that it's not always 'showing off'

The point was...and some don't get it....it's just another facet to ones playing and broadening horizons....Having the abiltiy to is a good thing and I'm not implying that shredding 24/7 just because you can is cool either...and yes...some could care less.....it's all about fun...not insecurity's or whatever....or bashing or whining or...well...you get the idea...maybe??

Hell yeah baby I'm on team shred! Where are my purple pants??? I don't think it's bad if you play fast. There's a time and place to play fast. When that time comes, why not play fast? You guys better gear up (old school soul punx) Once Shredder, Craig and I come up with our 3 guitar finale onslaught there won't be much crowd left. You guys might want to open the show just so you know you'll get the chance to play. LOL!!!! I'm ooooooooooonly kiiiiiiiding!!

So just out of curiosity,, if some of you guys don't like the "shred" what is the cutoff point? I mean Jim you said you can pick fast, (which means nothing),, so what is the cutoff. 100 bpm? 140? 180? I mean I assume since you guys put so much thought into not wanting to play fast you have a speed you will never go past then right? I guess anything under 140 is ok? So it has nothing to do with the music, nothing to do with feel, just if you play over 140 bpm your a shreddy wanker guy? Thats real logical. Thats a real intelligent way to approach music.
