I wonder if the guy who builds these ebay volume boxes has done something different to make the volume roll in slowly and steadily?

Update!! (and my bad for the huge pics) I got a 10K audio taper pot from radio shack and lo and behold, it works like a CHAMP!! very smooth and gentle volume introduction from whisper quiet to flat our roar. I started with no capacitor then went to a single 0.002µF orange drop cap then piggy backed on a .001 cap. Still haven't decided 100% on which one I like best or both or neither. It doesn't change the sound really much at all. Mounted it on the back metal grating. works great. pictars

That's pretty handy having it on the grating. Good idea. I wonder if this counts as the first mod to a factory Splawn?

I'm not going to go poking around inside the amp but if I had a straight forward answer or instructions I would like something like this to be integrated into the fx loop internally and have the pot mounted on the back of the chassis next to the little fx loop buttons. Alas, the FX loop and it's on/off and db level switches are all mounted to a small separate PCB so for now, this is how I have to do it. I just leave a small patch cable going from the send jack I hooked to the pot going to the return jack of the amp's loop.

fastred, can you post a pic of the back of your Splawn showing the full view? With the patch cable connected and ready to go, or with your pedals connected on/with the volume pot, if you use pedals. This is really cool.

yeah I've got the amp out of it's shell right now as I just finished setting it up and biasing it for KT88's (freaking UNREAL) but yeah I'll post up a pic as soon as it's back together.

Ah,.. I see you've been busy Drew ... So the 10K alpha pot from RS works "Properly"?? .. hmm... may have to check that out today as I'll be going by there,.... More importantly though,...where'd you get that Red Chicken head knob!?!?!?! Oh,...and your thread is usless without SoundClips!!! So,..could you tell any difference with or without the cap? .... I may have to stick Delta (A guy from the "Carvin" BB's that I have help me on developing mods for my amps.. ) on the whole "Mod" thing to apply this Master Volume type mod ... I sure between him and I ,..we should be able to disect the effects loop enough to figure it out where everything should go... Just need to add a small switch to bypass the MV pot all together (?) ... I've been out of town for a few days, so I've got a bunch of catching up to do around here on the home front,... Rick Anyway Cool stuff!!! ..

So I am guessing that there is no send level knob on the Splawns? So this volume knob works like a send level knob on other amps?

same as putting a volume pedal in the loop. so he can drive the tubes harder at lower volumes.
