Has anyone tried the EWS Subtle Volume Control? I realize that these boxes are just a pot in a box, but I'm looking for one that has a very smooth taper. I'm using a compressor in the loop right now (not for the compression) but with the sustain all the way off and the level. When the comp's level is completely off, you're hearing the amp very quietly. When you move it a hair, there is a jump in volume, almost like it's notched. It is not a smooth taper. Curious if anyone has any recommendations. I've been looking for ideal pot values and also type (liner/taper/etc). It looks like the EWS uses a 25k pot. Splawn puts a 100k pot in the newer models that have this function built in (and also some treble saving tech).
Any recommendations?

The Webber 150 mass attenuator works great on my nitro. Has a pot with smooth volume taper instead of the regular -db switch settings. It's also got two treble value compensator switches and recording outs for computer.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm not looking for an attenuator, just a passive volume pot in the loop. The pedal I have in the loop now sounds great, there is just a bit of a jump from very quiet TV/Bedroom Volume to say a "living room" volume type tone. Looking to see if the EWS Subtle Volume Control or other options could provide the same function, but with a smooth taper and without the jump in volume.

Ok. I have two more questions for your guys.
1) Just got the EWS Subtle Volume Control, and it suffers from the same volume "jump" that the compressor did in the loop. It's either very quiet, or you move the knob a hair and there is an audible JUMP in volume and then it's already very loud. Seems like 90% of the sweep is in the first 1% of the knob. Is this just a matter of the Splawn's effects loop being sensitive? I tried this method in another amp with both the compressor and the EWS and it didn't have that problem.
2) It seems that I am unable to use delay with this setup. I've tried the delay both before and after the volume pot in the loop and unless the volume pot is running at 100%, you will not hear the delay. Again, this is strange because I tried the same setup on a different amp;
Amp Send > Compressor (sustain 0, volume 1-5) > Delay > Amp Return
and it worked perfectly. I'm only having the issue with the Splawn. Any ideas?

I just scored a second-hand Nitro and i have a question as well :
let's say i want to record the signal that comes out of the preamp fo my nitro (by sending the fx loop send to my interface, and then use a poweramp/cab/mic miking simulation plugin like the Two Notes Torpedo Wall Of Sound in my DAW), but i want to have my cab hooked up to my head anyway as a load to prevent my amp from frying, and i want that cab to be dead silent (i.e : i want no sound to come out of the cab)...
If i turn the serial fx loop on on my nitro, then connect the fx loop send to my audio interface, but doesn't plug anything to the fx loop return, is my cab gonna be dead silent ? If it works, is it safe to use the amp this way for hours ?
