I figured I'd chime in one this one. I would have to still say Eddie is still influencing a lot of new players ( and old). I know I learned a few things playing his riffs. As far as up to date current fellers, hmmmm, Zakk still has skillz, I'm going to throw Rich Ward in there too since he has some sweet riffs and major stage presence. Ummmm the one guy from Atreyu is pretty good (I can't remember his name), John 5 can rip it up, I heard Brad Paisley do some pretty cool scales and runs, I'll even throw Clint Lowery (formerly Sevendust) in there just cause I'm a huge Dust fan. Now I'm not really basing my opinion entirely on skillz and shreder status, but also stage presence and just cool riffing period. I have never subscribed or even read guitar magazines, so I have to base my opinion on live shows, cds, and various dvds. I think anyone who puts forth the effort to establish their own original style of playing or you can listen to a cd and pretty much tell who is riffing is pretty good in my book. Also I think everyones perception of who is good or shreds differs greatly.

I love the Dust, but I miss Clints vocals on the newer material. I really liked his version of Hurt off the live album.

Yeah I read where Clint kinda regrets leaving Dust. I like their new stuff, but now it is all Morgan (drummer) pretty much which isn't so bad because he is entertaining to watch live. The riffs are all chuga chuga, open note, open note, lift or pull off, chuga chuga. Clint would at least throw different picking and progressions in there every once in a while. His vocals also added more dynamics and depth. Don't get me wrong I'm still a huge Dust fan and like Sonny's playing also, but I prefer Clint if given a choice. The dream set up to me would be to have Rich Ward join Dust with Clint on the second guitar. Talking about craziness on stage, riffage, and sweet alternating vocal parts. Dude you would get worn out just watching them. They are all from the Atlanta area and Rich used to play in the same band as Clint's brother Corey (Stuck mojo). Actually Corey left Stuck mojo and Rich carried on, but whatever. It would be crazy. Not the best guitar shreding so to speak but an awesome live show.

I know what you mean. I like the new material It just lacks some of the depth that Clint added. I was lucky enough to support Fozzy last year and Rich was just excellent. A really nice guy and of course my introduction to splawn.

Nice. I met him in 1996 or 1997 I can't remember exactly. He was a trip. I had just survived one of the worst mosh pits I'd ever been in at their show. He made a point to try and greet as many folks as he could. I was shirtless and bleeding if I remember right ( or that may have been the first time I saw Korn, who knows, it was during my young and crazy years anyhow). I do remember he was tripping on how long the pit would last during songs or raps or whatever you want to categorize Mojo as.

He's got some great bluesy chops going on. Other than that I would have to say Buckethead is my newest guitar hero. That guy just blows me away.

I mean I can appreciate it but it's not something I listen to much. I just like how versatile he is and the fact that he is weird. His music is out there and he does a lot of different stuff. I'm just saying out of all the shredder guys I just like his style the best. I have no inclination learn any of his stuff or eminate him (not that I could anyway) but he impresses me the most.
