Yep, it's all about whatever turns your crank. For me, gigging is just where it's at, I've been doing it pretty much constantly since I was a teenager, and I'm 41 now. I like the volume, I like jamming with a band, I like the whole atmosphere. Sure sometimes you get the crap along with it, but for me playing live is what it's all about. Crazy rock chicks too............that's always fun too. My band (www.68guns.net) does the 80's metal thing, and it's just fun fun fun from begining to end.
At home most of the time I don't even play though an amp. I usually work on my overall playing rather than worry about the amp side of things. Then when I hit the stage and get to blast, man that's the stuff.

LOL I dont know how you can not turn on the splawn at home! mine is on almost all the time! Jammed with the crew last night.. and again the splawn is just so fun and fits the sonic signature where I wanted it to be. I couldnt believe the settings I ended up using though. presence off, bass 4:00, mids 3, treble 9:30, with the Celestion V30 cab. talk about weird! and it sounded very different yet very good. maybe this is closer to the Splawn Cab sound? since I killed the high end of the v30's I will have to try this with my X patterned v30xgt1275s and see what happens next.

I love gigging and in fact I think its what I play for overall. I have been doing the original thing for about 5 or 6 years now (jeesh) and I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. I am 27 and don't expect to be a rock star, I just love the feel of a cranked amp against the energy of a live band. It makes me warm just thinking about it (and I think about it all day). I just feel like I was meant to be there and it is my best source of artistic self expression.
I don't play the Splawn at home either. I don't have room to set it up and it would just be too loud. I use my Rivera M60 combo with a VS Jekyll & Hyde distortion pedal to get higher gain at lower volumes. I hate lugging my Splawn to the rehersal studio but I can't resist playing through it, especially over the solidstate amps they have in the studio!

We often play smaller places...Friday night theres about 30 people in the place ALL danci'n...wer'e jammi'n and havi'n a great time. Good energy always leads to great playi'n and just plain fun.
Saturday night....there's like 10 people in the entire house. Nobody danci'n. Were' playi'n our a**es off. By midnight...ready to go to sleep and wonderi'n why I put SO much energy into this. LOL

yeah, we had a small crowd on saturday too..not that many people...but the place is in the middle of nowhere and it was colder than a witch's teet..lol
was funny..cause quite honestly, we had a VERY bad night as a band..some major flubs that I couldn't help but shake my head at..but there were these two guys, walk ins...they were commin' up doin' the 'I'm not worthy' thing during a couple leads..it was funny as hell...and when we played the heavier stuff they were out there makin' fools of themselves..so that made my night..lol..

my best friend got me into playing gigs with his band once i got out of college...he had a great rock band at the time...dudes played out all the time...
a few years ago i asked him if he misses playing out (he's married with 2 kids now)...his answer surprised the hell out of me...
he said he hated playing live...i was shocked...
i said, "well, why the hell did you play in all those gigging bands over the years?"...he said "i love playing in a band and the only way i could find good musicians was if we were a gigging band..."
you're not the only one that feels the way you do...

Vom,
I am guessing most of the people on this forum are in their early 30's to late 40's and probably have a family (or at least some do) I never went that route and my health condition makes it real tough to be in a relationship so I certainly don't a a family in my future. Based on what your friend said dosen't make much sense to me being if your already commiting to learning songs, rehearsing, working with different personalities you might as well gig at that point. I can see as a parent having not much interest in the scene being your priorities most likely will change. I really believe that its a lot of hard work being in a band. Most of my friends were in original bands over the years. One of my best friends/great guitar player played with Saigon Kick. For me by the time I get home from work I certainly don't have much motivation to do anything. My diabetes certainly does not help. If I could get a gig in the daytime I would probably dig it. I am not much of a night person these days. BTW I would like to send you a copy of my DVD/CD list. Not sure how to use the PM. Could I send you an email?

Hell we ususally play to less than that! Maybe when it gets warmer it would be worth it? We don't care about having huge crowds much as long as they are into what we doing. We just like to play.

We just like to play. that's what I'm thinkin' too..rather than goin' down the shore, I bet alotta people close(er) to that area go there....it's kinda like Bar A in bellmawr..beach volleyball court outside, etc, etc... we have another show in mid march and one on april 1st (now THERE's a gig date for ya..lol)...the singer talked to the manager and they said they have no problem with an original band if you'd wanna play your own stuff..what we could do is see how the march show goes with the weather and such..if it's nice and there's a bigger turn out, we could maybe do it on the 1st if you have nothign goin on? I have to re-talk to the band about this..cause quite frankly, after the turnout on saturday, we're not even sure if we wanna make that drive for what little money we do get...I look at it this way though..I considered it a practice that we got paid for...only we had to lug our own stuff there..lol..at least the PA stays at home

You never know? You might get a pretty good following there. We still gig all the time. A lot less now than what we were doing for the last 6 years. We're playing a few acoustic shows this week and then we're off to Kansas. We got booked at a club up there about 3 years ago and it was on the way back from another gig so we all thought "Oh man were in Kansas???" Turns out to be a great place! They treat you great! They feed you, put you up in rooms, pay you awesome! and the people love and appreciate live music. It's sold out everytime we go and play there. I'll try and get some video this weekend and then I'll have two shows on video that I can't figure out to post for you guys.
