^ me either. The funny thing though is that it is a widely held belief on the forums that magh8's other amp, the Powerball, doesn't cut in a band situation and he doesn't seem to have a problem with that. I have read that about the PB in many forums and have never had any problem cutting thru.I will say that the amp definately cuts better with the vader cabs and tube swap.

actually i think he is set like this?pres 1;00,bass 4-6:00,mids 2:00,treb 6-7:00,gain about 11:00 on the orange channel thru a maximizer with the setting at 0 to add compression.it does get over the drums and bass pretty well but the splawn is just a retarded cutting machine.he actually told me that my old dsl 100 sounded way better than the nitro?i was like you liked the dsl because it was very forgiving he also said that the splawn wasn't as articulate as my PB or the old DSL.
now in defense to the DSL.I will say I never played another that sounded like that particular amp it was a first year production model and it was pretty bad ass and all stock.this thing could rip your face off it sounded so pissed.7 years after buying it I blew a powertube had it fixed and it was never the same.enter the powerball.i had to get really used to playing the PB in the begining because the marshall had been so forgiving and it will be the same way with the Nitro.

Like Vom said "turn up" If that's the problem then have everyone "turn down" Some people never think about that. There's really only so much volume you need on stage. Once a band figures that out they'll be alot happier.

I think a lot of these nitro problems are the cabinet.so many forget how important the cab is,great head, crap cab, sucking life from the head.anything cuts thru a mix with proper eq. Another thing is , mesas are still great amps, mesas i believe the start of hi gain amps. I dont think other amps kill them, they have their own sound,a nitro wont sound like a mesa,or whatever,if you like a particular amp better so be it,its your ears, but dont slam a product into the dirt.

Well, in his defense some amps do have a hardtime regardless of volume. They just seem to sit in the frequencies that get swallowed by cymbals, snare, bass, white noise, etc. the best example is the Dual Rectumfriers. I could not get mine to cut no matter how loud it was. Everytime I have seen a band use one of those I can never make out what the guitarist is playing. Instead you getthe wall of distortion thing going on. Now as for the Nitro, I can't see it beinga problem but then again I have never tried it in a band situation. You should talk to Silverwulf about this, haha. he has a DR and his ALWAYS cuts through no matter what amp I'm playing. Ha, I'm always turning up..ha. He doesn't EQ to 'mud' either if you know what I mean. We are very mid freq friendly guitarists. Most poeple that use DR's don't know what a mid freq is. I don't know. I'm all about mids and I couldn't get a cutting mix out that head no matter what. That and the fact that the settings never sounded the same and I was always trying to dial it in made me really learn to hate that amp. After 2 years of stuggling with the DR you won't be changing my opinion!

The DR's I owned there was a noticeable "hole" around 1k and 2.5 k, which are where the guitar really has to cut.
The best one I ever heard was a 2 channel early model with tesla el34s. Someone may have done some tweaks to that think.

Has anyone tried the Nitro with the 'half power' switch on? Does this make the amp feel like an actual 50 watt amp? How does it change the dynamics? (other than cutting the watts by half :-P )
