So as you know i got a mint condition 2006 Splawn 4x12 which hasn't got a mark on it in a trade. I also received a USA green charvel so cal with modified truss rod at heel, EVH wah pedal and Boss Chorus pedal. I don't think the pedals were even used They are in box and look brand new.
What i traded to him was my cherryburst Peavey Wolfgang archtop. I am super happy witb this deal. Pics to come. (I have to switch over to tapatalk to post pics)

Nice dude...you’re one lucky guy! You seem to just walk into killer trades!!
What pickups are in the Charvel? Also, let me ask to about the placement of the volume knob on that Charvel. That’s the spot scott puts his on the SS1... I’m thinking, for me that it’s in the way of my picking hand, especially when aggressively strumming. Obviously it’s not as intrusive as a Strat but still. What are your thoughts on the placement?

Thanks! Lol yeah i have never had such luck in trades as i have this past week. I definetely got my money's worth and more in both trades.
Are you talking about the light blue charvel? My buddy moved the volume knob closer because he put in the killswitch. (Very cool feature) I think you should get one! Alot cool tricks you can do like rapid press it while dive bombing and then slowing down the speed when releasing back up. Sounds freaking cool! Good for Randy stuff too.
I don't like Fender strats because the volume know always gets in my way and where the volume in on the sonic blue and green charvel is......it never touches me when i play. It is spaced enough away compared to fender's. Up close Pic to follow.

The pickups in the green charvel are JB and 59 which came stock in the USA ones. The japanese had dimarzio tone zone and evolutions. Mexican ones today have jb and 59 again.

Sorry I thought you were talking about light blue one because that volume was moved closer for killswitch. I didn't even notice that the green one is in same place lol. I went back and edited post a little.

I removed the volume knob from my Strat and moved it to the tone 1 position and made tone 2 universal. The normal placement is unusable for me. My Ibanez 7 String has the volume knob somewhat close to my picking hand. It’s not unplayable but I wish it were about 2” lower. I’ll need to look at my Ibby and compare it to your 2 Charvels.
I asked Scott about then possibility of moving the volume knob but he didn’t specifically answer that particular question. I would think that as long as my chosen placement fell within the the electronics cutout, it would be ok....
Now that you mention it, Im definitely going to get the kill switch on my SS1.
You just gave me a cool idea for the control layout!!
Edit: I just looked at the pics you posted of your Kramer...look at the volume knob placement....to me it looks like a much better spot. It would be behind my picking hand and wouldn’t interfere.

Yeah you will love the kill switch. You can get them in different colors to match your guitar. I am the same as you when it comes to volume knob placement. I played this evening with this thread in mind and noticed my hand does touch the volume knob occasionally but i probably wouldn't have noticed if i didn't read about it today. Here is a pic of two fenders i sold a few years ago and i moved the knob closer two the switch.

Bri...when you get a free minute can you do me a favor? This is a measurement I took of my LP Special. 2” from edge of the E string to the beginning of the volume knob. Would you be able to take a measurement of your Green Charvel’s knob? The LP distance works for me so I’m curious as to the distance on the Charvel (probably the same distance as the SS1). Thanks man!!

Thanks man! I appreciate that. It’s just that when you get to buy a custom made guitar I’d like for all the specs to be perfect. I’d hate to buy this guitar and then hate some aspect of it.

Yeah I would want it to be perfect to my tastes after spending the money and waiting for it to be built also!

Oh...and if you get a killswitch, I recommend putting it up further on the body than mine so that you can reach it with the hand that is on the trem bar. Where mine is, i can only do open string dives because i have to use my left hand to reach the switch.
I am going to move it to where the volume is so i have a better chance of using my hand that is on bar to reach it.
That is why Ed had them put up further on the mew wolfgangs. They have to route a small cavity with a small tunnel to the pots cavity.

That was pretty much my thought too. Yesterday when I said you had given me an idea about the control layout I was thinking of putting the kill switch (push button variety, like Buckethead uses) in the usual volume knob place and the volume knob somewhere in the middle of the electronics cavity and lastly the 3 way toggle under that. The only thing I need to figure out is if I’ll have easy access to the toggle. Wouldn’t want the volume to block it. Maybe swap the toggle to the middle and volume lower?

I like my toggle where charvel puts them and where it is on my Kramer. I find if its up top where wolfgangs put them and les pauls.....it gets in the way when you tapping. But i got used to avoiding it with my wolfies.
If I was ordering a custom built guitar, I would put the toggle where it is on my blue warmoth or charvels and the kill switch where my volume is on blue warmoth. But the toggle could go where it is now too. Not as picky about my toggle. The killswitch is flat so it wouldn't bother you there.
After I move mine, i will give you feeback. I know it will be better than where it is now but will it be perfect? I am guessing it would be the most comfortable even further up like the new wolfie.
