....Put a bung in the bottom of their head shell ? This would be a common sense thing to do, so you don't have to keep removing the amp out of the head shell every time you want to bias the tubes ;D Me thinks a 25mm plastic boat bung would do nicely = $5.00 over to you men, what you say hey

This Type ;D or bigger Type if your an Old fella and your eye sight is failing ;D This just hits me as a "Must Have" item on these types of amps.

I must say, that a pretty clever idea

I thought I was the only clever one. I was going to mod my head shell in a similar fashion when my new tubes came in. I think it will be less wear and tear on the amp and make bias adjustments on the fly a lot easier. I'll post pics when I get done with mine.

So you'd route a hole in the underside of the headshell, right where the bias pot is, and fill it with this "bung" the rest of the time? That seems like a great idea. Second only to having an external bias pot. It's not just easier access and less wear on the head, it's also got to be safer than exposed caps etc. Just as a minor caveat, the first type: looks like it might protrude a couple of cms when closed. You'd want to be absolutely certain this didn't stick out farther than the amp's rubber feet, for obvious reasons.

That looks like a cool idea; I am wondering if the Splawn with decent (non China) power tubes needs frequent rebiasing?

;D The smaller one only protrudes 10mm. The rubber feet are about 22mm The larger one protrudes about 7mm so no worries there either. I can't believe that no one does this, I remember when we were kids this was the first thing we did to my mates Marshall ;D I actually thought all new amps today would have easy access bias control, ah well looks like some things never change. You fellas in here should let the Boss know in the factory to add this as a standard. I would have paid to have it installed ....Just another job for dear old dad

Does a hole this small have any effect on the shielding of the amp?
I think it's a cool feature when builders put test points and a bias pot on the chassis, but it takes up a lot of space on the back panel. I had a Ceriatone with those features on the top of the chassis, which worked out well.

I don't think it would be too hard for Scott to start putting an external bias adjustment knob on the back of the amp. It would be a GREAT idea to do for 2012 models.

Affect sheilding ? No way. Don't do it if you don't want to or if your worried about it. I thought in 2011, access to biasing an amp would have changed since 1978 ;D I see some amp companies have made it very simple indeed Anyway, took the boy to "band camp" over the weekend and blokes were crawling all over the QR ( a couple of yummi mummi's I was checkin out ;D) and two fellas asked what was that port underneath the amp ;D - I told them it was where we plug into download all the new apps for this amp ;D - They believed me of couse ;D Love it !

My only question is, If I'm using a Weber Bias Rite, will the tubes still fit in the headshell or will they be too tall?

Sorry, I don't use Weber, Weber actually looks quite large. Measure the gap between the top of the tube and the underside of your headshell. It will work or it won't - I hope it works for you, cause pulling your amp in and out every time = big time sucki sucki Biaspro is no problem at all ;D Love the Biaspro

At this point, I have to pull the amp out every time to get to the trim pot anyway. So it's sucki sucki no matter what. Who makes the biaspro?
