All right shredders!!!, i picked up a gutar and learned to play because of 80s era metal, aka., hair metal, radio metal, whatever the hell they wanna call it. If you had to pick the coolest most catchy riff from an 80s song, keeping in mind tonality, "brownness" for lack of a better descriptive word, and just downright "punch yer gramma in the mouth LesPaul through a marshall sound", what would it be? I wanna know who Im hangin out with! For me its a no brainer, its the main riff right at the end of the solo in Dokken's, "In My Dreams". I take a lot of crap @ work for being 47yrs old and playing "gay Hair Metal", with different bands around the Motor City but I dont care, every time I hear George Lynch play that riff after the solo the hair stands up on the back of my neck! So whats your favorite riffs?!!

wow..the coolest riff from the 80s, keeping tone in mind....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
I think probably the most prototypical hot rodded marhsall tone from that era was Vivian's tone on Rainbow in the Dark...
then you have Accept's Balls to the Wall..another killer intro/tone...
Any one of a number of early VH songs..lol....when he hits the open G 4th at the beginning of Mean Streets...Light Up the Sky.....
Then there's Dokken's Lightning Strikes...lol..or pretty much anything off Back for the Attack..now that's some raw and angry dry marshall tone

Oooooohhh.. 80's riffage!
Ratt - Lay it Down. That riff still floors me.. VH -Unchained - Best riff ever? VH - House of Pain - sick tone and when the drums kick in its bad ass. Racer X - Gone Too far - one of the sickest riffs ever! Loudness - Let it Go Ozzy - Never - I still have no idea what Jake is doing on that one,, Dokken - everything off Back for the attack Extreme - everything off the 1st 2 records.

Yea I totaly forgot about "balls to the wall" and vivivans tone in the Dio days. I get erect when I hear those palm muted notes in the very begining of "Eruption", right before the A chord that rings. Def Leppards" Too Late", has a kick butt riff, and so does Whitesnake's, Judjement Day", I always warm up with that or " Mean Streets",...."Party on Wayne!"
