Rocker35 did you have to pay customs charges or just shipping and handling. I really like that Les paul custom.

I was lucky, as Tad in Japan who I got these from stuck them down as gifts, so I only had to pay shipping and handling!!

Does anyone know the differences between the various model numbers of these things? Edwards Les Pauls, I mean. The E-LP 90, 92, 98, 112, and so on, they seem to cost more as you go up but I'm not sure why and can't find a decent comparison online. The 92 seems to be easy to get hold of and I'm wondering what I'd be missing versus the higher models.

This is what I can make out of the numbers and codes Ayton - They all start E-LP, Edwards Les Paul. C - Custom S- Standard D - Duncan Humbuckers E - EMG P - P90's QM - Quilt maple top. LT - Lacquer taste (lacquer finish rather than poly) RE - Relic. 90 is a Les Paul Junior style. 92 is standard range. 98 is standard range with lacquer finish 112 is the EMG range 130 is the relic range with Duncan Antiquity's and upgraded electrics ie period correct capacitors and pots. So, a E-LP 92SD/QM is a Les Paul Standard with Seymour Duncan pickups and a quilt maple top, an E-LP 98 LTC is a Les Paul Custom with and a lacquer finish etc. All Standards other than the Quilt Top models have a flame maple top and all the Lacquer Taste models have Duncan humbuckers. From what I can see, the hardware is the same (although tuning keys are different between Standards and Customs just like Gibsons) Seems that the price difference is mainly down to finish and pickups. I could be completely wrong of course!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

That is fantastic! Man, I am glad you stayed around after your bandmate sold up and moved on. ;D
Obviously you know your Gibson Les Pauls in the first place (I don't) which is how you figured all that out. Exactly what I needed.
I would like a nitro finish, but some poking around last night led me to believe they just spray some nitro on top of poly for these Lacquer Taste guitars, for the look of the thing, which would have none of the tonal benefit of a true nitro finish, so I guess I don't need that upgrade. The relics do look gorgeous, mind...
Seems a 92 might be fine. Amazing that you're getting a Standard, with none of the mojo but none of the QA gamble, for like $800.

What do these puppies come out to for the final cost when ordering from Japan?

Around a G all in, on the 92. I'm looking at a couple already in the states to avoid all that.

My experience is that we don't pay those here. In Britain it's a nightmare.
