Hey guys. I'm amp shopping. I'm currently looking at.. The Bogner Uberschall The Splawn Nitro The Reason SM-50 I was wondering if the Nitro will do Tool style sounds. It looks and sounds like a great amp. I'm looking to mix a Diezel or a Bogner with it later on. So will the Splawn Deliver Warm and Heavey sounds. I'm looking for a Jambi Style tone. Tool's Jambi Live- www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEBJEWsi_DYThanks very much for your time. BTW, I'm new to the Forums.

Welcome. If you can play the Tool song (s) then a Nitro will do it just fine. If you want to exactly duplicate a player's tone or whatever then buy the same guitar, cables, strings, amp, effects, and cab as the player you are copying. Every amp has it's own "voice" or "voicings". Every different brand of cab sounds different not to mention different speakers. As far as the amps you mentioned the Nitro will have the best overall tone. It will also allow you to have extra funds left over to purchase additional equipment like a Splawn cab. I reccommend the Governor/Manowar Xpattern or Texas Heat/Governor Xpattern my opinion of course. I play modern rock/metal and my Nitro spanks any amp I have tried for playing modern rock. The best part of Splawn amps is you are starting out with great tone. What I mean when I say this is you do not have to add a compressor, eq, gate, and boost to have a mean, articulate, and tight tone. Most amps sound decent out of the box, but need some extra assistance to get that butter tone. Splawn's have it straight out of the box. Splawn's also have a distinct growl and you know when someone is playing a Splawn. The amp is built like a tank. The man who builds and sets up the amps Scott Splawn is an awesome person. So to answer your question............................GET A NITRO!

What about getting a Rivera TRE? That's mostly what he was using on the last album.

He didn't use the Rivera too much. He had it in the back blended with the Diezel and The bogner. He mainly had his signal blended like this..
Wings for marie-- Marshall 50% Diezel 20% Rivera 10% Bogner 10% Peavey 10%
As for Jambi the Tre and the Bogner were only used..
I've just been looking heavily at these splawn amps.
I'm going to get another amp next year to pair it up with Either a Bogner Uberschall or a Diezel VH4. And run those in parrellel.
What do you think about the Nitro doing Tool though? Kinda getting a similiar tone.

I think the Nitro can be dialed in to get whatever tone you're going for. The funny thing about the Splawn amps is that you'll pair it up with another amp and then you'll ditch that other amp cause the Splawn sounds so much better.

Haha, I don't think the splawn will beat the VH4 or The Uberschall, but I really don't know. Is there anyone here who is familiar with Adam Jones's tone and Tool in general, and could give me a good idea of that. Or anyone who could record some sound clips of some Tool on the Nitro, thanks for all the help guys.

There was a special Tool edition magazine that one of he guitar mags put out and that's what I am recalling. Anyway, I have played the Nitro a little and I think you could get Tool tones pretty easily with it, especially the newer tones. It may not get quite as saturated as the Bogner or Diezel but it will give you that Marshall sizzle on the top end with plenty of low end to spare. I think the tones on the last album are the best he has ever had but I attribute that mostly to bringing in Joe Barresi as a producer.

I do know my Pro Mod can get his early Opiate/Undertow tones pretty nicely.

You have to take into consideration they are using studio preamps and other trick stuff to warm up the sound, so you may get close to the tone. I find it hard to relate to emulating someone's exact tone. I try and have different/better tone than what I hear on the CDs. I got to check out Tool's guitar rig up close when I worked their show. He was using two Diezel VH4s with 4 cabs. He had some rack stuff and a few pedals. He also had four of the same les pauls in the guitar rack. I didn't see any other trick stuff. Nothing really exciting. His tone was good with a medium gain/crunch thing going on. I don't know if it was the second hand marijuana smoke I was breathing or lack of action on stage, but it was the most boring concert I have seen. The tunes were good, but boring. IMO. We were told they were not going to come back to Jacksonville because we (police) walked near their dressing rooms after the show and messed up their sex/drugs session backstage when we were leaving the venue. Oh well.........

I really enjoy all the tool shows. You know they were joking about not coming back, Maynard is crazy like that. Didn't he have the Marshall on stage, he always does. Do you think the Splawn can get close though? Or do that Genre well?

I think the Quick Rod can get the older Tool tones...the Nitro is probably the one for the newer tones. And a Les Paul...and a ton of effects. ;D I'm a tool fan myself DD...yer not the only one.

I'm definatley looking at the Nitro. I've got alot of effects already, some Adam has, other's he doesn't. I'm not looking to get his exact tone, just a ballpark range of the newer tones. Do you have a Nitro Man?

Nope I have the QR ;D I can pull off Sober and Aenima no problem...It's really punchy and clear. 3rd gear might get the newer stuff. For the newer stuff...the Nitro may be better...but I've never played one.

Well Adam Definatley loves his mids, So either way. The QR has a higher mid voicing, and the Nitro a Lower Mid/ Lower End. Which Adam Doesn't have too much off. Could you make a video or do some clips of like Swamp song, Stinkfist? or a few songs off of undertow/ AEnima?
That would be amazing=]
Thanks for your time man
