Haha, I don't think the splawn will beat the VH4 or The Uberschall, but I really don't know. Is there anyone here who is familiar with Adam Jones's tone and Tool in general, and could give me a good idea of that. Or anyone who could record some sound clips of some Tool on the Nitro, thanks for all the help guys. Only thing you need for adam's sound is a lot of gain, way over boosted mids, random assortments of flangers, wahs & delays all in front of the amp. I owned a vh4s & I HATED IT. The sound was so stock I chould have shot myself in the head. Plus, not sure who you got your info from but there was NO uberschall on the album that was the ecstasy, my buddy helped do digital editing on that album, & yes...the k-tre rivera was used ALOT more than what you think, A LOT. Problem is...the mesa was once unique...had a very distinguished tone to it...give it 4 years...everyone owned one & used the exact same settings, so 5 years or so after initial diezel hype...all the big name acts use um too...they've become as common as the mesas in their day were. Believe me, if you want to do heavy...get the uberschall...you'll heavy it up WAY more than any other amp in the world...but, if you want to diversify & try something a tad different, you'll be SOL, because that amp ONLY does the heavy sound. That is why everyone who has them eitehr has other amps to switch to for cleans or less distorted sounds or is simply only a heavy played. Now Adam plays the diezel because he doesn't channel switch just rolls off his guitar volume for the cleans & the diezel does great cleans...I think the splawn would be A DAMN FINE choice as most of us around do do a lot of volume roll offs for our cleans etc...you this amp WILL do the heavy & will clean up much nicer than any of the other amps you mentioned. Just my opinion & a few facts. Hope that helps. Note...Adam ONLY uses the marshall to clean up the saturation from other amps...so don't think about buying two super high gain amps like the nitro/uberschall & the vh4 7 running them together you sound will just sound like HISS/FIZZ FIZZ -Brent Great post Brent. You hit the nail on the head with the purpose of the Marshall as well as adding some mid bite like I mentioned. I also think you are right about the Rivera. I read that the KTre was used a lot more than mentioned by Adam, according to Joe Barresi. The Diezels and Mesas on their own certainly give you the saturation and low end but lack that mid character. I played some half assed Tool riffs the other night at practice with my LP and it sounded great on the Pro Mod. I don't doubt the Nirto would do them as well or better, especially the newer stuff. Plus, you will have an amp that is way more versatile AND unique than either of those two.

I don't know about getting Adams exact tone. He used some mad stuff. But I can say the lead guitarist in my band had a tre' before we got nitros and its not even a comparison. We played them side by side and the Nitro was bigger, clearer, and had a nicer tone. Not to take anything away from a tre' because it is a great amp. And as far as a Uber. That was the amp I was trying to decide between when I got my Nitro and I never even gave it another chance when I herd my Nitro with kt88s.

I don't think the Nitro would be ideal for older Tool tones. It's too saturated and compressed with too much low end. Don't get me wrong, you could play Tool on it just fine, but it's definitely not ideal IMO if you're trying to get close to the character of that type of tone. It would probably work well for the modern stuff, albeit a little bass heavy.
Call me crazy, but I think the less compressed/stiff Super Stock would probably work best of all the Splawn's for an old Tool tone.

I'm not really looking for their old tone, more of their new tones. I love the old tones, but I'm liking the new ones better. I do love that old hi mid grind though. But I'm liking the low midshift here.

He didn't use the Rivera too much. He had it in the back blended with the Diezel and The bogner. He mainly had his signal blended like this.. Wings for marie-- Marshall 50% Diezel 20% Rivera 10% Bogner 10% Peavey 10% As for Jambi the Tre and the Bogner were only used.. I've just been looking heavily at these splawn amps. I'm going to get another amp next year to pair it up with Either a Bogner Uberschall or a Diezel VH4. And run those in parrellel. What do you think about the Nitro doing Tool though? Kinda getting a similiar tone. I don't know exactly where you got those percentages. He used the VH4 as the main amp for 10,000 days. The Superbass is for the extra mids and the other amps (5150, KR7, and Uberschall) for more hair, chunk or certain frequency boosts. As for getting a Tool tone, I use a Quickrod with the mids and bass dimed and the treble about half and adjust with the presence for more control, and a Framus Dragon for even more bass and treble. I'm probably going to trade off the Dragon for a VH4 and buy the 1 channel nitro when it comes out just for more overall versatility.
