I'm seeing a few splawn amps for sale. strikes me kinda odd That someone would pay a large sum of of cash & wait 2 months then play it for 2weeks to little under a month and taking a cut in resell & pay the shipping as well.
What are yA! made out of money? Can't tell a great amp when you play one?
I also been reading some body is saying the amp is stiff not enough sag? Then wanting to buy an old Vintage Marshall? That fine but give the amp a chance. Play it for a year let it breath. How do you think lengendary amp like Marshall & Fender made it? Do you somebody back then said"this plexi doesn't have enough sag or something" or "this Blackface Fender isn't clean enough" Hell no! They played the amp good & hard for years.Wringing all the tones they can outof their amp. Nobody gave up on a good qaulity amp back then. Weird something happen. After playing in a smoke filled room. alittle chicken grease on the knobs & playing in all different weather. the amp started to sound better & better through the year.
Sure the splawn doesn't sound like an Vintage Marshall, Dual Rectum fryer,Bogner,VHT. It's a Splawn period. People should research well before buying gear. Does it have to have a Marshall logo to say it's better? Do you know what tones you are looking for? Can't hide your mistake like you use to? Afraid of becoming a better guitarist?
I say give the amp the chance it deserve.Grow with it. Act like it the only amp you have & thats all there is to buy at the time. Let the amp become you.
All I can ask is why did you buy it? what were you expecting to sound just like all those guys on the splawn clips.
Every amp I had I still got. Play the Sh%T out of them & love it. But everyone has their reasons to sell such a great amp.
Gee I wonder what would happen if Jimi hendrick or Jimmy Page even Jeff Beck decided to sell their Marshall to play Watkin amps? I think the music would be alittle different tone wise.
I guess what I'm trying to say is " I'm keeping my Fu%king Splawn forever & playing the Fu#k out of it & loving it!!!" It can only get better & better.

nice post, i think alot of this sh1t about "sag" is made up...what the fook does that mean?...
my favorite is "amp X doesn't cut through in a live band"
when my amp doesn't cut through....I TURN IT UP...guess what, now it cuts through

Stiff? Good Lord that's the craziest thing I've ever heard a SPlawn be called. How on Earth could you possibly decide that it's not the amp for you without even using it in a live setting? It's not designed for bedroom use. I'm not knocking anyone cause to each their own but c'mon. That's like buying a surround sound system for a theatre room and then watching "Wheel of fortune" and saying "Oh it's just not doing what I want it to do" No schite! You have to pump up the volume and watch something like "Saving Private Ryan" and then you see and hear the results of what you paid for.

Alice, I totally dig what you are saying. But look at it this way, let those people sell their Splawns. It just means it will go to a good home, to someone who really appreciates the amp and we can get it for less without having to wait for 2-3 months to get it.

Splawn's are great amps but it's like someone buying a Bogner and spending 3 to 4k. When you get it, play it and it does not react or sound the way you thought it would. You have to move on and do what you have to recoup some of that cash to buy the next one. It's always a loss when you buy new gear and decide to sell.
You can do all the research you want and listen to sound clips till your ears are bleeding, It's not the same as plugging your guitar in with your pickups and cab you are using. You are either satisfied or your not period. I have done this time after time and still do it.
I wish I had enough money to buy one of everything then there wouldn't be this problem! LOL

You have to pump up the volume and watch something like "Saving Private Ryan" and then you see and hear the results of what you paid for. LOL!! That is exactly how I "road tested" our surround sound. That Normandy scene was one of THE BEST 15 minutes ever filmed in the history of cinema - if not THE best - period. That said, I play my Competition at bedroom volumes every day. It took just a little tweaking, but sounds great. It lacks a tad of the sustaining drive at low volume that, say my Line 6, has. But, that's a low volume thing, The L6 is set up to sound cranked at low volume and it does that well. The Comp just gets better at volume whereas the L6 gets thinner at volume. I use both amps and love them both. But, I knew beforehand that the Comp is not really a bedroom amp (but that's still an arguable point for me) so I wasn't too dissapointed. I bought it for playing with friends - just happens that these days I'm not, and playing mainly at home. And it did expose many weaknesses in my playing, which I already knew I had many to begin with. But, reason to practice more. RAmbling... sorry.

Hey guys. Hacksaw and myself began to wonder if some of this left field bulls@#t that has been posted lately about our amps, is an outside effort from say another forum or guitar publication to see if they can derail us or cause us to implode. To these outside Judas's if this is what's happening, I say F@#K YOU. Myself and Hacksaw disscussed this on P.M.'S just a couple of days ago, when this weird contraban came onto the scene. Now, if this is just crazy coincedence. I need to be the first to say, I appologize. Everyone's got the right to their opinion and free speech. But I agree without hesitation with EVERYTHING YOU GUYS HAVE JUST POSTED. And let me add this, there seems to be shades of grey most times. THIS AIN'T ONE OF THEM. A SPLAWN AMP IS WHAT IT IS, AND THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!!!!!!!! Now some people lately have posted misfortune and need to sell. I empathize with you and this reply is in no way intended for such people. If I had the extra money I would buy the Splawn amps from you, to help you out and gain another true friend. But I also have down times for extra funds, so that's what it is. Keep speaking up, defend what's ours. Stand true in the face of adversity. What we have is the best. ;D

I don't think some people spend enough time with amps when they buy them. I think they are under the impression that you can just get it home, plug in, turns some knobs and then get the perfect tone that you are looking for because you paid alot of money for it. There are way too many things that effect your tone. You have to have patience and try different things as far as effects, guitars, pickups, speakers, etc. When I first got my Pro Stock home the only guitar I had at the time was my Dean with EMG's, didn't like the sound I was getting so I swapped out my pickups to passive. Still not there and then I bought an ESP EC-1000 loaded with EMG's and I love the sound I'm getting out of it now so go figure. Same pickups that I didn't like before but now in a different guitar their OK, maybe the wood....who knows. I can also tell that I have way too many mids in my tone and some of it I can dial out with an EQ in the loop but I've figured out that for me personally, I don't like the Splawn with a quad of Vintage 30's so I am gonna pick up a couple of H30's to balance it out. You have a head that already has tons of mids so you don't want to run a speaker that is know to have a sh!t load of mids or your gonna get that shrill tone. Also if people think this head is stiff they really need to experiment with their bias settings. I can guarantee that it would loosen up a bit if you run your tubes a little hotter. These heads are know for being biased cold. Some people like this, some don't. I just ordered a set of JJ KT88's and a bias probe from Bob at Eurotubes to do just that. Anyway, everytime I change something it just sounds better and better so for all those people that are giving up so easily......your missing the boat.

The Splawn Quick Rod is an awesome amp. It CAN do the vintage Marshall thing . Check out Chubtones amp shootout with two old Marshall's ,a Peacemaker ,and the Splawn. They all sound very similar in that they all have the Marshall vibe going on. It's very hard to tell which amp is which.
If you want vintage Marshall with the Splawn just plug into the low input(or 1st gear)cut your gain down and the master up.I have a plexi and a 1977 Marshall that I can get the Splawn to sound like either one. I have said it before and I'll say it again...The Splawn Quick Rod is the best Marshall that Marshall NEVER made!

fact of the matter is..you just can't please everyone.....that being said, if you're a modded marshall kind of guy and you don't like the splawn, then I do think there's something wrong with you..either that or you just don't like the modded marshall type of tone...
yes, chubtone's clips prove that you can get a vintagy type of marshall tone out of the splawn..which is funny, cause even chub said..that's not really waht the QR is supposed to do, but it STILL does it...
now, are you going to get that vintagy type tone with 11 gague strings and super high output pups? probably not...will you get there wiht a low output paf type of pup or a strat or a LP? I say yes gawddamnit!
it's funny though....one person says it's too stiff..the other person says it's not tight enough!!! LOL....
what TJ said it right..while it can be used for at home applications, it's really a stage amp...that's when it shines and that's when it kicks the most ass....
meh, whatever....this all makes me very weary..lol

My QR is the best piece of equip I have ever owned or played period! This thing smells fishy to me. You guys have heard me ramble on about my brother-n-law right? Well this is the kinda crap he would do. Some people can't stand it when you have a good thing going.
I have never followed the crowd in my life, ain't going to start now. If you don't have a marshall or boogie or what ever the latest craze is,BS!
What I like about my Splawn, the guys I grew up with and took lessons had these big marshall stacks. And they sounded good but not as good as my Splawn! Hey I will be the 1st to tell ya,it not my guitar playing that turns family and friends heads. Its my Splawn ;D Rock on Brothers!!!!
