Akron Rubber Bowl 1988. I have both shows on cd and the first night on video.
Its not the limo, that was at the end. Its was him not even shaking our hand. I think my friend Jim had his hand held out, just rude. Anyway, I love Van Halen, you know I do. It was a bad experience for me.

as far as EVH sucking these days..
i think the well's run dry guys...
look at lynch....alot of us think his playing in the 80's was the schit...I know I do...he's one of my major influences..
but have you seen any of his stuff today? alotta searching, alotta what sounds like noodling...
I just think after awhile, the well runs dry...after you've done so many ground breaking things as EVH did, what else is there left to do?
that and he got off the sauce...LOL....

I think Lynch is still delivering the goods. Hes not as focused anymore for sure, and he has modernized his sound alot. While alot of die-hard fans won't like the modern sound, he is trying which is more you can say about alot of guys.
Theres at least 2 solos on the Lynch/Pilson cd that are Lynch par-excellence. Hes still got it in small doses, whereas, EVH has nothing left, nada. Hes lost 'the riff' and any semblance of chops required to pull off anything he used to do. Hes got a lot of woodshedding to do before we'll ever hear another VH release on par with say F.U.C.K., OU812 or anything prior..

I like the Lynch Pilson CD..it's a good rocker...the lead work for the most part is solid, but not to my liking..but the song writing (except for that instrumental! awful) is good stuff... I haven't heard anything from VH since balance..and fire in the whole offa VH3..but I haven't heard anything good about it..lol

See I liked alot on Balance, Seventh Seal was great, Amsterdam awesome!, Feelin', some really good tunes. I really hated at least 3 others on there...
The songs on VHIII were not bad compared to other bands, but compared to other VH tunes they were terrible. I loved Without You and Fire in the Hole, and I love Gary Cherone, always did. I thought the '98 tour was their best since '88 or so. I have some great boots from that tour. But,, EVH's playing was pretty weak on the whole album.
The 2 new Hagar tunes I thought Hagar carried them. Up fo breakfast had a great groove and rhythm,, but honestly the solo in the other tune (I foget the name) made m cry. It made me physically ill. It sounded like he had broken hands. It was terrible. It sounded like a guy who recorded a solo who hadn't touched a guitar in 5 years.... which was probably the case.

I also liked seventh seal..and I really liked his tone on that instrumental.....the rest of the album I could do without...other than fire in the hole I've heard nothing from VH3, but I have heard that it was a great concert cause gary could do DLR and hagar's vocals....
great great singer..
bring back extreme dammit!!

Thats true the '98 tour was special and the song selection was amazing. I mean they played Romeo Delight and Mean streets!!! and stuff that was just incredible and Gary sang them better than Roth ever did. I have a boot from Australia I think, one of many '98 boots and theres a version of Mean Streets that outdoes any version I've ever heard going back to the '81 tour.

Cherone was awesome on that tour.. and with Extreme. He sounded as goo o better than the records, so did Nuno.. they were fantastic musicians. I remember seeing Extreme in a bar back in '90 or so, right before Pornograffitii came out.. they were so tight and their vocals were so perfedt and Gary was like a madman running around this little stage..
This grungy looking band opened for them. Never heard of them before.. they looked like homeless guys.. We thought they were from Cleveland and were hanging out playing pool with them before Extreme came one.. Nice guys and really orginal.. I introduced myself and the guitar player said yeah were from Seattle, I'm Jerry, this is Sean.. and we played pool for like an hour... a month later they were all over the radio. It was Alice in Chains.
