I agree with Splawn fan on this one. Eddie kept getting better and weirder and came up with more cool stuff up through 1984 which I still say had his best playing on it. And Fair Warning, he stopped using all those VH 1-II licks and changed alot. My dissappointment in VH is not the output in the 80's, its the lack of output in the 90's and on. Sad. I mean even the Stones can get together every 2 years and put out a record and tour. Look at Aerosmith.. cleaned up and putting out hit after hit. EVH is a jerk and nobody can wok with him except his brother who is also a jerk. Lets face facts. Sorry, it makes me sad. both of em' are jerks...they got alot of attention as youngsters and never grew up...I don't have enough energy today to start a 'rant' about today's celebrities (rock stars, athletes, movie stars...) having terribly shallow character....Van Halen bros would fit right into this mold however.. oh come on...we don't know what's going on in the life of the van halen bros... a) ed has cancer...yeah yeah...it's in remission, guess what, that never goes away...may explain the lack of "product" and the drinking b) hagar's the one out now talking crap about ed and airing dirty laundry...the bros haven't said anything. c) if you want to blame ed for DLR leaving maybe you should blame DLR...he QUIT the band to become a moviestar...i have actual interview footage from 1986 where he says he quit... d) if you want to blame ed for sam leaving we need to talk about sam's work ethic...many producers had gone on record saying that hagar hardly puts any time in the studio...ed lives in the studio...so, you can see where a problem may occur e) ed is god

Loyal?, loyal to what? A guy who doesn't like his fans, doesn't care about anything the fans want and never did... C'mon man. the guy hasn't done anything in 15 years. Sure there was maybe 2 good songs on III and maybe 2 good songs on the greatest hits, 3 good songs on Balance? Your diluted. 1 live album and one good release in '91. That sucks.
I love ya brother, but wake up. I went through this for years too and finally snapped out of it. I'm so glad I did. I have all my bootlegs which keeps me sane and justmakes me more angry that he stopped playing guitar in 1991.

I have all my bootlegs which keeps me sane and justmakes me more angry that he stopped playing guitar in 1991. ed could've stopped recording after 1984 and he'd still be the world's most influential guitar player...comparing him to hendrix is a joke...hendrix didn't create a whole musical movement... i saw him 5 times live in 1998 and the guy was on fookin FIRE...i mean FIRE...live...i think VH3 was a great album and only got panned because DLR wasn't on it...i love cherone and wished that he was still in the band..."year to the day" and "once" are masterpieces...ed gets sh!t on because he's probably the only "legend" that's still alive...SRV...dead...*cough* hendrix...dead...randy...dead...if SRV and hendrix were still alive i bet ya they'd be getting shat on also in this internet world of instant communication. ed is ill...physically ill...i was shocked when they announced that they were touring in 04...not because of a reunion with hagar...but because a cancer patient is going out on the road for a strenuous tour... ed already rewrote the fooking guitar book...he changed the way guitars were played/ made/ and sold...you can't say that about anyone else...noone else has that distinction...not hendrix/not page/not clapton/not anyone except for ed... he doesn't need to prove anything else nor give me anything else for me to stand by the guy...he changed my life...

oh 1 thing relating to the fans...i don't understand how you can say that...what proof is there that he doesn't like the fans? there's video of the 04 tour where he's crying during his solo spot on numerous occasions because of the support and applause the people were giving him...he was moved to fookin tears
i met the guy twice and he was nothing but super nice to me...i saw him sitting there for 40 minutes in NJ signing autographs and handing out guitar picks to everyone...

people approach the guy constantly...
"hey ed, remember when i ran into you in 85 in that hotel lobby in bumfook, wisconsin"
when ed doesn't remember..."that dudes a d!ck...didn't fookin remember me"...
other people always ask the dude for sh!t.."hey ed, can i get ya to sign this guitar?"
ed explains to the guy that he doesn't sign guitars anymore because people end up selling them for money.."what a D!CK..ED SUCKS"

You make a good case... I must admit...it's hard to believe our 'heroes' are human. I have heard a few interviews and the VH bros were very unlikable in the interviews....that's been my experience.

You make a good case... I must admit...it's hard to believe our 'heroes' are human. I have heard a few interviews and the VH bros were very unlikable in the interviews....that's been my experience. jim, you know what it mainly is...people act like "a$$holes" around the guy...and then are surprised that he's "NOT COOL" i had soundcheck tickets twice for the 04 tour...you got to hang with the guys at soundcheck/listen to soundcheck/get front row seats for the show...etc...my first time at worcester was a fookin nightmare...my group...probably 70 people in total were complete d!cks to ed...ed would ask.. what song do you want us to play?..expecting "mean street" or "jamie's crying"...some d!cks were yelling freebird and slayer...i mean come on...that's bullnuts...if you're in that group you're a die hard VH fan because those tix costed around $400...and you act that way infront of the guys...other people would try to get ed to forcibly sign junk...one dude wanted ed to sign his kids birth certificate...ed said no....the guy got all pissy... because of this behavior the band didn't really interact with the fans that much... at the meadowlands a few days later my group was completely the opposite...polite/ courteous...ed signed stuff for a long time/spoke to the fans about his life/played songs that they requested...it was like night and day... basically people act like d!cks around the guy and then are surprised why he doesn't react the way they want him to... at the meadowlands i yelled out "ed, i'm glad you're healthy!!" he stopped what he was doing, "who said that?" i said, "ed, right here, i'm glad you're healthy man" ed looked at me, smiled and flexed his muscles to show that he was in good shape... i didn't ask for an autographed wolfgang or a pick...i showed the guy some respect and concern and he did the same...

Thats a great story. Your very lucky.. heres mine.
When I was 17 I had full access to the hotel where VH, Metallica, Dokken and Scorpions were staying at. Ed was healthy then and this was way before any cancer or other issues. If I'm not mistaken he was also clean on the '88 tour and it showed cause he played and sounded phenomenal. I have it on video... anyway..
The night before show #1 I was in the hotel bar/restaurant and got to hang out with Kirk Hammet, Mattias Jabs and some of the guys in Kingdon Come. All those guys were super cool.
Later I met Don Dokken, signed BFTA for me and took a great pic with him.
the next morning, we got up early went and had breakfast in the same restaurant. I met Jason Newsted. He got up from his chair eating and came over to say hi to us. Took pics, was so nice to us.
Met Hetfield and Lars, even f'ing Lars was nice! Hetfield let us hang out and took tons of pics..
Later, we met all of the Scorpions. Rudolf Schenker, he was the coolest. Could hardly spek english but higged us and took pics with him etc.. all of those guys were so nice.
Then it happened,,, Van Halen Time. Alex came out of the elevator and we had on our VH shirts. Dude, he came right over to us, we didn't act rude or goofy or anything. He was so nice, shook our hands and I didn't even ask for an autograph. He offered to let us take pics with him so we did.
Next up Michael Anthony. He was way cool and invited us over to meet his wife Sue and his then very young Daughter, I have pics of this too. She looked like she was about 2 years old. He was so friendly and genuinly seemed interested in talking to 2 fans.
Sammy. What can you say about Sammy? He offered to give us a ride to the show in the limo!!. They had 2 limos for 4 guys so there was plenty of room. We couldn't though cause of Eddie. He didn't want us to.
Eddie came out and wouldn't even make eye contact. Wouldn't even shake our hand or anything. He kept walking like we were not even there while Sammy sat and talked to us. Valerie even talked to us for a minute with her brother and they were really nice.. Eddie just got in the limo with Alex and looked at Sammy and said'' "No Way".. meaning about us riding over with him.. What a D1CK..
Thats my EVH story. theres alot more like mine than like yours.

I didn't want anything from the guy. I didn't have a pen or anything to sign, and the camera was in my pocket. I was and still am the most laid back 'fan' when I meet people. I mean half the people i used to go see when I was a kid I hang out with now! I was sitting in a chair talking to Sammy. Valerie and her brother and some other guy was there. It was very laid back. there were no other fans anywhere. We were totally cool and normal. Sorry but he was a jerk! It has nothing to do with my love for his playing. which I will always love prior to '91.
