Hey all, I don't know if this has been done here yet, but I thought it would interesting to know what kind of amps everyone had up till getting the Splawn(s) you now own. Kind of like an amp history to see how you ended up here. I know some of you geezer ( ;D) rockers have had hundreds of amps so maybe just limit it to the previous 10 or 15 before the Splawn. This can included amps you currently own wwhich I have maked with a (*). Ok, here's my list: - Splawn Pro Mod - 3rd gen*
- Rivera Knucklehead Reverb EL34
- Sunn Concert Lead*
- Marshall JCM900 Dual Reverb
- Orange Rockerverb 100
- Rivera M60-112*
- Fender Twin Reissue 212
- Mesa 3 channel Dual Rectifier
- Ampeg VL502 Lee Jackson model
- Crate VC30 (*still have but its dead)
I believe thats all I can think of for now besides some SS junk that I had when I was young that isn't worth mentioning! The order goes from newest to oldest on this list. Ok, go with it....

Countless Marshall 4-input both 50 and 100 watt...you name the year (from 69-83) and I have owned it...JCM800 both 50 and 100, JCM900 both, JCM2000 100 watt 3-channel head...mesa boogie a few mkI's and a few mkII's, one mkIII, Boogie studio pre, triaxis/290, single, dual and triple recto heads......Fender Bassman, dual showman, pro reverb, VibroVerb, Vibro-King, twin reverb, 2-Yamaha Soldano rip-off heads, Soldano SL60 head, Guytron GT100 head, Carr Mercury 1x12, Rocktron Prophesy/Marshall power amp rig.., Matchless Lightning 15 2x10, DC30 2x12, Bad Cat Black Cat 30 reverb (still own that), Vox ac30, vox beatle amp (long ago my friend...), univox 1x12 p.o.Crap amp, line 6 P.O.Crap pod (really a toy and not an amp per se'), Sunn model T amp (the absolute loudest tube amp with no distortion, even when cranked...arrrg...), that's all my little brain can remember at this time.... I was able to avoid 'owning' alot of high end amps by playing others...ie: Diezel, Bogner, SLO Soldano, etc...I'm sure great amps, but I like the Splawn...

Well jimbax, that's a lot of amps! I was kinda looking for the order before you got the Splawn but that's cool too . I know what you mean about the Sunn amp. My Concert Lead is like 300 watts solid state and hardly distorts! That's where the distortion pedal comes in. Not the best sound but it works for practice. I bought a VS Jekyll and Hyde pedal on ebay and got screwed:(. I sent the dude $100 but got nothing and its been a month now. Man that really pisses me off, that's the second time I got beat for over $100 on there. One more time and I'm out! I can't believe how freakin loud that thing is!! I can't put it past 2 or my speakers will fall out! Works well as a bass amp also.

scamper (no idea who made it) crate GTX 1800 w zoom 9030 fx processor and bbe sonic maximizer peavey 5150 triaxis THROUGH the 5150 triaxis w/ simulclass 2 90 triple recto vetta 2 combo
and now the splawn =D
all those amps had various 4x12 cabs except for the infamous scamper..and I have no reservatiosn saying that the mesa stuff is some of the most overhyped and overpriced crap I've ever had the misfortune to waste money on =)

There ya go Interesting, not too many Marshall clones there. Looks like a majority of Vox clones. My ultimate large stage setup would be the Splawn with a VoxAC30TB or something similar like Matchless, Bad Cat, etc. I am now realizing I love Marshall crunch and Vox chime. I like the Fender sound as well but I have no use for it other than playing SRV licks or surf rock

They are good for heavy rhythms but blow for anything else. One thing I always noticed from my own experience and seeing other bands use them is that they get lost in a live mix no matter how you EQ it. Esp when there are two guitarists up there and one has a Mesa Rec. It ends up sounding like white noise distortion.

yep, its true. At one point my rig consisted of
20 space rack.. Furman power conditioner with lights,, (useless) Alesis Quadrverb BBE Sonic Maximizer ADA-MP-1 Korg rack tuner Peavey Classic 120/120 power amp
I remember one gig I was having trouble getting a good sound, my bass player at the time came over and hit 'bypass' on the quad and I was like ok, that sounds better. I've played completely dry ever since, that was about 14 years ago,, LOL.
