Dudes, I'm tellin ya...try the Fulltone OCD in front of the Splawn...it works the best without 'mid-humping' the tone....you can use it as a clean boost too!

In my younger days I thought you HAD to have a rack to get 1000 different sounds for playing live,, nowadays I have 2 sounds. LOUD, and LOUDER... thats the way like it. That's funny. What was the point of having all that rack gear. just to keep up with the Joneses? How did that craze start? I think its funny that now you have to have a half stack (usually Mesa) to be cool, even if your playing in a cafe or small room . Sometimes all you need is a combo amp.

Is it the gray one or the red one? Iprefer the newer one.

No, the Jekyll & Hyde is for my Sunn Concert Lead in our practice space in my bassists garage. It's too cold to leave a tube amp out there so I picked up that amp for cheap so I can just leave it in there. It's sounds decent for a solid state but the distortion needs major help from a pedal. I use theBoss OS/DS now and it sounds pretty bad. I'm just trying to upgrade my practice sound a bit.
For the Splawn, I am thinking of going with the Maxon OD-9. I imagine the Fulltone is pretty pricey?

I saw Jimmy Page playing two of them on the Page & Plant tour. They sounded nice! Too bad mine died and is collecting dust in the garage

it was mostly the 80's super processed stuff, ducking echos, chorus's from h*ll, flanger and phaser effects,, and covering every band from the 80's, with all the songs in a cover band, you had to switch in and out all over the place. so racks of gear, a bradshaw midi controller ( all access from rocktron now) and you can reconfig the whole rack in a touch of a button. it was very versatile system, just very time consuming to setup and maintain. ( bad cable somewhere? one of at least 30! a hour later you may find it! LOL) but not many sounds you couldnt get! after it was setup and working right.
90% of gigs i seen and played has way to much equipment! usually to much PA for what is needed! 30,000 watts for a 100x 100 club.. LOL, the more ya bring the more impressive ya look ,, LOL the 80's Look!

Bummer!! on the dead VC, I saw your post where it was dead, I was wondering what was wrong with it. they usually pop tubes, as I have seen the el84s go out quite often in mine. I have to keep a eye on them.
I like my VC 5212, its a great sounding amp. keeper.

Yeah, first it did this thing that they all had problems with where the cahnnels would swicth on its own! I fixed that real easily (just a bad solder on the pc board). Now it just doesn't even turn on. I haven't tried the fuses or anything because its so buried in the garage but I am moving out soon so I will resurrect it when I get it in the new place.
Its funny because I bought it when I was younger and didn't know anything and I come to find later that it was actually a good purchase despite the tech problems. It has a good warmth to it for a Crate.
