Thanks Craig. I was looking at the CE-24 already but hadn't seen the custom 24 yet. I also have my eye on a 1994 CE-22. Do you think that the 24's are better than the 22's? I'm playing a 1992 CE-24 that I borrowed and the neck feels a little thin to me. I would probably like the wide fat neck on a 22 better although I like the idea of the neck pickup being farther towards the bridge on the 24 because that HB pickup always seems muddy to me. Is there a big difference between the necks on your two PRS'?

Both mine are 24's. At that time in my life in my super-shredder phase I thought I needed them, but now I play 22 on my Mansel and newer guitars. I like both for different reasons, but the 22's scale is definitely more confortable for my bigger hands... BUT the fret access on the PRS 24's is amazing.

The 22 and 24 fret PRS' are both 25" scale so the fret spacing should be the same on both up to the 22nd fret. The 23rd and 24th frets do get small on the 24 fret model though.

I mean, I won't hold it against a guitar if it plays well but has 24 frets..but it's not something I specifically happen to look for...I just find I don't use anything about 22 anyway..just worked out that I never owned a 24 fret guitar

24 frets are helpful at low tunings for string tension...gimme a set of .12's, drop-c and I'm home.

The scales the same yeah, but the spacing is wider notably on the higher frets which works better for my big monkey hands.

I think that's a good thing though..all the 24 fretters i've played have been wayyyy too cramped (even for me) up on the higher registers..almost to the point of being unusable, know what I'm saying?

yeah thats the word I'm looking for cramped. The 22's aren't as cramped up high.

OK guys, I just got back from a local store and played several PRS'. The 24 fret models seem to have lighter string tension and a smaller heel than the 22. Looks like it will have to be a 24 for me.

looks like ya found what you're looking for..nice =D
on a somewhat related note..I'm thinking of unloading my EBMM axis for an EBMM petrucci...I just can't get accustomed to the low radius neck..
yeah, I know..wlel, why'd you buy it then! lol
when I got it I thought I could lower the bridge to better the action or that I'd get used to it..but nope! the floyd sits on the body..can't go any lower...and cause of the rounded fretboard, you can only go so low on the E strings...craig'll know about this one cause of his peavy...
I dunno..we'll see..I have some thinkin' to do, but I'd like to just swap mine for a JP and then slap some duncans on it..new, they both go for the same price so I could probably make an even trade..

I found a 1993 flametop cherry burst CE-24 in pretty good shape for $1250. I might have to pick this one up.
