yeah i thought of that also ;D If by being on MTV you mean doing an interview on TRL to a crowd of teenagers, being a special guest star on Road Rules, showing off your pad in Cribs, and starring in your own "Look at me!" reality show...then I understand... ;D Need more videos... " I want my...I want my....I want my M-T-V..."

I still blame that Cobain boy for causing the guitar world a bunch of pain.
I miss 'No More Tears' Zakk in his bowler hat and bellbottoms. Always with the stance. With Dime, I'm just glad that we got to hear what he was capable of before he was taken from us.

VH1 Classic > MTV
MTV is ridiculous. The VMA's are a joke. I thought they might make a comeback after the whole "Boy Band" fad that finally went away but they just sank lower with all this reality shows, Real World, etc. etc. etc. Boring!!

So, what would be a good "gateway" CD from either Opeth or Mastadon? For Mastodon I'd maybe start with Leviathan for the riffs and then Blood Mountain for the writing, playing and arranging. They have a really nice vintage sound to them, but still sound contemporary. +1 THose are the two best CD's though I prefer Blood Mountain more because of the songwriting and production (Leviathon has a muddy porduction). For Opeth I would suggest "Ghost Reveries" for the rockage and "Damnation" for chilled out mood and great melodies. I hat tehy cookie monster vocal thing too but Opeth does it sparingly and with more taste and the guy can really sing as well.

See....thats the whole problem, there arent guitar gods or "hero's" anymore! A guitar hero is larger than life, and in a larger than life band, not just an incredible player. Govan is great, but a hero? I think not. Maybe we are all too old and jaded....perhaps this is a question better posed to the youth of today? Just my opinion. +1 I don't listen to new music anymore . There so much crap to sift through to find something good . I don't even recognize alot of the guys that ya'll talk about on here.

For Opeth's stuff this quote is right on the money. Ghost Reveries is a great disc, and for a rainy day you cant beat Damnation. Mastadon Ive never heard....Ill have to check them out though. Regarding the downfall of MTV, it really has turned into an abomination hasn't it? Thankfully we have VH1 classic which is actually pretty good. For those us us that were old enough to really appreciate MTV when it first came out....man those were good times! I remember when they would show live concerts on Friday or Saturday night.....Priest, Ozzy ,Hagar......good times!

Guys, I will have to go with Doug Aldrich. He will have a new CD w/whitesnake out after the first of the year. I think that if he was given the stage that Zakk and Dimebag had back in the day to set them up for Guitar Hero status, he could have been put up their as well. Too bad he didn't hook up with Whitesnake in thier prime, he could have been considered a monster along the likes of Lynch,DeMartini, Bratta, and so on.
