Hi All,
It has been a little slow so I thought I would start a new thread.
I would like to know who you think has the best tone.
I like the following guys: Ronnie Montrose on “Montrose,” Matthias Jabs/Scorpions, Thin Lizzy on “Live and Dangerous,” and Ritchie Blackmore, on most stuff.
It goes without saying the Eddie Van Halen has the best tone overall. Maybe we could say which tone we like other than the early VH stuff.
I apologize in advance if a thread like this has appeared before.

oh crud..what a question..LOL
if I had to pick the tone that I would most like to have if I had to have a sound like anyone? Nuno offa Pornografitti...
there's lots of great tones otu there...some of the most ripping rhythm tone I've ever heard is Vivian Campbell's rhythm tone on Rainbow In The Dark
Dimartini's up there too....that song from point break Nobody Rides for Free is KILLER!!! Lynch's tones on back for the attack and under lock and key are favorites of mine too..
of course early EVH is up there...John norum's always had alotta good tones...Doug Aldrich's tone usually rips...

I forgot about these dudes: early Black Sabbath, Rich Ward of Stuck Mojo. I like the Hiwatt sound of the early Romantics' stuff as well. Guilty pleasure, I know. But you should listen to the albums before you make fun of me.

His last album sucked da cheese!!! I'm referring to Ah Via Musicom. The holy grail of tone and technique!
Of course honorable mentions would be Nuno Bettencourt EVH I, II and to throw a curveball out there I'll say Billie Jo of Greenday on Dookie!

the best guitar tone that didn't come from evh is.....(drum roll)
demartini...the opening riff to lay it down (w/ wanted man a close second).
when i was a kid i used to stay up late and listen to that syndicated program on the radio called "metalshop" where they'd play all metal...this is 1985
i was a huge ratt fan since the EP ( their version of walking the dog is unreal)...
when that guy played lay it down for the first time and i heard that tone it sunk all the way into my bones......
(sigh)....

Dokken “Tooth and Nail” still passes the arm hair test for me. If there was an event that got me started play guitar. It was hearing it on the Radio. Yes, they played Dokken on the radio at one point in time. Also hearing Led Zeppelin II helped. This is a decent web site. www.dinosaurrockguitar.com/ He talks about tone, sometimes. Cool t-shirts. I wish the could remaster the old Dokken and Ratt CDs. I think they could really do some good things sonically with the technology available today. I have heard that Warren D of Ratt has the best sounding Plexi. It needs six fans in the studio and blows up every 2 hours. True story.? Too bad all they make is Rap music now. Shred, have some kids to help carry the metal flag.

Shred, Throw away all non-metal CDs to keep your daughters ears from being corrupted. Good deal. I know your kid will rock!
