I'm not 'down' on anything...I like practicing and do it as often as I can...the days of putting HUGE emphasis on arps and speed picking riffs is LLLOOOONNNNGGG gone....Don is RIGHT with his assessment of RadioHead because they are into 'experimental' creative music expression, a 'fresh' angle....guys like Paul Gilbert will NEVER be recognized in the likes of SRV or any blues player for that matter, because his style is FAR less appreciated by the mainstream music fan....he is creative in the way he strings his licks together, impressive really, but, it isn't very pleasant to listen to for very long AT ALL....so, what is the point then? he doesn't relate anything of 'emotional' value in his 'compositions'..... his tunes are like 'trinkets'.... shallow, little and forgettable.....fun? OK, to a FEW...do I knock it cause I can't play it?...no, I knock it because I would never WANT to play it...for whatever reason it does absolutely nothing for me...do I judge those that like him? no, I really don't....go ahead and like him, I'll lose NO sleep...but, on the other hand, don't judge me because I don't like him...bunch o hypocrites....heheheh See Jim comments like that just make you sound stupid. Its not funny or clever or anything really. At least Don admitted he never even heard Gilbert until yesterday, your saying a guy who had 10 solo albums, 8 Mr Big albums, 7 Racer-X albums, sells out clinics all over the world and taught at G.I.T... CAN'T IMPROVISE? I mean where are you getting your info from other than the one Gilbert tune you've actualy listened too? Nice. You should be a music critic. Its cool if you don't like it, but if your making fun of him to p1ss me off, than that just makes you a jerk. And if your slamming him after only listening to one song, than that just makes you a fool. |

Paul Gilbert is an outstanding 'clinical' guitar player...technically brilliant... yet, lacking soul, tone, intensity (because he thinks intensity = more notes) and especially 'restraint'...that's my opinion, I'm sure it won't hurt Paul Gilbert's feelings, he would maybe agree with a few of em...but, if my opinion makes me a 'jerk' or 'stupid' or a 'fool'....then what can I say to that? I could judge you as the same.... I know this guy is your idol, I know you don't have any respect for my influences...so what? Oh man really.. musical boundaries? as much as guys like me are a stereotype to you, those that like Radiohead for pushing musical boundaries are just as stereotypical to guys like me.  ..and uh Bon jovi can sell out the Garden too.. so that means pretty much nothing. that being said.. I still love you man,, LMAO.. Its obvious you haven't listened to much Radiohead other than the darn Creep song on the radio. Those guys take chances with their music and never conform and have lost some superficial fanbase because of it. But the true fans understand that it is all in the name of creativity and never being static. The difference with Bon Jovi is they TRY hard to be marketable. I think they would sell their first born to continue making pop hits! Radiohead can put out an ambient electronic aibum that is 90% instrumental and STILL sell out the Garden. Lets see the Jovi pull that off. ooh and I love you too buddy ;D |
