Oh Don Bad English had Neil Schon on guitar, arguably one of the best, feel-loaded players ever and hes got tons of chops. You may have heard of his other band... Journey. Really Vom,, thats crazy, I'm sorry you think Randy invented shredding. Sounds like your cd collection is pretty thin. I don't mean that sarcastically or in a mean way, just thats a really innaccurate statement to make.

That's why he convinced me to go to that lame concert, because he's a huge Journey fan! Well whoever it was it was GHEY. I didn't own a guitar then so I wouldn't have known plus I just flat out hated it. "When I see you smile..." oh god light some drapes on fire with their 'ballad' lighters so they can stop the show!

yeah dude, but c'mon Randy played with Ozzy,, BIG DIFFERENCE. Paul barely broke with one hit. So are we now judging talent based on guys that play fast, but NOT TOO FAST. Have good songs,, but NOT TOO GOOD and are on the cover of Guitar magazines,, uh,, yeah.
As much as I love you guys and this forum, I never could for the life of me understand the close-minded-ness of limiting your musicality and technique. Its shocking and amazing that anyone could be ignorant enough to believe that speed=no feel or vice-versa.
I'm so glad I don't have that problem.

c'mon guys..we all know that Mick Mars invented shredding... God knows he's about 200 years old...do the math! in all honesty...i'd rather see mick mars play than pablo gilberto oh my God LOL...anyway, I can't fault you for who and what you like dude...I mean, who the hell am I to tell someone to like? craig and I just happen to have VERY similar views on playing and influences (although he pulls it off better through his playing than I do..lol)... I never really saw RR as a shredder...more as a guy who was up on his theory (hey, just cause I don't like his style doesn't mean I don't find EVERYTHING about him unredeeming--if that's a word)... to me shredders would be like gilbert, steve stevens, friedman, impelliteri, dimebag..guys like that...

See thats how I feel about most RadioHead songs,, LMAO. But admittedly thats a cheese-tastic tune. Bad English doesn't even deserved to be mentioned in the same room as Bad English. Just not even in the same league. Bad English is a one-hit-wonder that lasted for a few years. Radiohead sells multiplatinum albums and still sells out the Garden after 15 years. Theres just no substance to Bad English whereas Radiohead is introspective and pushes the musical boundaries. Sorry dude, one of my fav all time bands and worlds apart

I have to (shockingly..lol) agree with craig..
what's wrong with being ABLE to shred?? sure, it can be overused...
that's why I brought up the classical thing..which nobody seems to be biting on, other than craig...if someone did the math, I wonder what the percentage of classical compositions would be that have SHRED VIOLIN in them...nobody ever says anything about that though...
'oh, that Wagner...always with the shred violin..so cheesey'....
what's different with guitar? why such hatred? seems to me that more people hate shredders than the other way around..
and this goes back to the whole popular opinion thing..I'm not a non conformist just to be that way...comes from years of seeing what I like as compared to what's popular...I never dug grunge..I never dug rap, hip hop, country...I don't like Nascar...I don't like reality TV...I don't live at the GAP...
I do what I want and listen to what I want...I can see things from both sides...but we're gettin' into the same thing as with the whole C.C. Deville saga (as it will become to be known in splawn myth and lore...lol)...to ME, just cause people wanna hear one thing that was written 20 years ago as opposed to something else written just as long ago doesn't make it better necessarily...
look at craig (best example I can think of)...he's got a LOONNNG list of shredders in his influence vault...does he friggin' rip up the fretboard every measure of every song? nope...but when he can, it's there and he does it well...to me, that's like having alotta tools in the chest (as kurtstuff said in another thread)

I think the close-mindedness goes both ways here. If it isn't techinical or flashy its lame or if it is Shredding then its wanking. Either way we are opinonated about our preferences and these threads go nowhere. They are entertaining to a point though.

Oh man really.. musical boundaries? as much as guys like me are a stereotype to you, those that like Radiohead for pushing musical boundaries are just as stereotypical to guys like me. ..and uh Bon jovi can sell out the Garden too.. so that means pretty much nothing. that being said.. I still love you man,, LMAO..

It would be completly redundant to tell you guys this, but I get off equally on the following things.. seriously I'd put one up as high as the other
Miles Davis- Kind of Blue Bach - (Prelude, Fuge and Allegro in A which I just learned) Van Halen - Fair Warning Paul Gilbert - any Racer-x album Stevie Ray- everything.. john Coltrane - Blue Train
how could you play any of that stuff without amazing technique? Why would you want to suck when things as great as those listed above could be accomplished with excellent technique?
Talk about pushing musical boundaries,, pickup a Coltrane record man,, were talking in different languages I think.

I'm so glad I don't have that problem. when randy played with ozzy, ozzy was just thrown out of black sabbath...noone cared about him...he couldn't get a record deal...he financed those 2 albums with his own money and eventually got a distribution deal with jet because sharon's dad owned the company, hell the first live shows they played were in bars in england...the reason why ozzy became so famous..even more famous solo than w/ sabbath was because of those great tunes...tunes that randy wrote...
