yeah dude, but c'mon Randy played with Ozzy,, BIG DIFFERENCE. Paul barely broke with one hit. So are we now judging talent based on guys that play fast, but NOT TOO FAST. Have good songs,, but NOT TOO GOOD and are on the cover of Guitar magazines,, uh,, yeah. As much as I love you guys and this forum, I never could for the life of me understand the close-minded-ness of limiting your musicality and technique. Its shocking and amazing that anyone could be ignorant enough to believe that speed=no feel or vice-versa. I'm so glad I don't have that problem. when randy played with ozzy, ozzy was just thrown out of black sabbath...noone cared about him...he couldn't get a record deal...he financed those 2 albums with his own money and eventually got a distribution deal with jet because sharon's dad owned the company, hell the first live shows they played were in bars in england...the reason why ozzy became so famous..even more famous solo than w/ sabbath was because of those great tunes...tunes that randy wrote... Oh man, your preaching to the choir. Without Randy Ozzy would be dead or certainly not have the career hes had. I love both albums, Tribute and all the boots I have... My problem is what you said about anyone being faster than Randy as a waste of time, or meaningless or just bad playing. I mean if its an opinion than cool, but its so limiting...

it's all subjective you knuckleheads...I like to stir the shred pot every now and then...hehehe...get Craigs purple tights in a wad...I'm laughing my head off...you guys are SOOOO EAAAASSSYYY to get in a huff....hahahahahahahahahaha,...who cares? shred all you want, I do every now and then, so what... I know Jim,, but my problem is with that whole "shredding" term in general,, its such a negative way to refer to someone with good technique. I mean some guys wear it as a badge of pride like Shreder75,, LMAO.. but I always hated it as an adjective to describe a player. I mean damm listen to a SRV live performance and that guys was shredding his nuzt off, but nobody called him a shredder,, I don't get it. You know who the smart guys are? Guys like TJ.. hes shredding and playing all kinds of cool and varied stuff, but I bet nobody calls him a shredder cause its packaged in a much more subtle way.

I'm a total shred head. I am also a fan of Radiohead. I've got the friggin "Carpenters greatest hits" in my car right now. I listen to everything because I think you can get something out of all styles of music. Be it shred, punk, classical, new age, contemporary, etc. etc. I'm a huge rap fan (old school that would be, House of Pain, grandmaster Flash, RUn DMC) I'm a huge Randy Rhodes fan. I love VAn Halen! I love lamp! When shred was frowned upon in the music scene I never left it. It's always a part of my arsenal and I enjoy playing it. If it's done tastefully and executed with precision, you just can't down on that. You have to give props because you know that guy or girl put some serious, serious time and effort to be able to play like that. Viva Pablo Gilberto!
I do get the whole shredder thing every once in a while Craig. It's usually in the same sentence as "You don't look like a rocker?" All of us have different views on what we think is good guitar playing. That's what makes this forum so cool. Bottom line we all have two things in common. 1. We all agree that Splawn amps are the coolest. 2. We're all at some point going to die. LOL!!!

THE CARPENTERS!!!! u got sac admitting that, I'll give you that my friend...LMAO... you kinda sound like my bassplayer (that's right..he's MINE..I own him!!)....there's not much he doesn't listen to... I listen to more than you'd think given what I always talk about on here... Yes Rush Styx etc, etc.. ANYTHING THAT ROCKS! hell, one of my favorite guitar players is Adrian Smith...and I also think Lindsay Buckinghim is an animal..as is Elliot EAston..two 'non shredders' by the strictest definition.. but dude, the #2 in your 'things in common' is, like, a total downer haha

Oh Don Bad English had Neil Schon on guitar, arguably one of the best, feel-loaded players ever and hes got tons of chops. You may have heard of his other band... Journey. Really Vom,, thats crazy, I'm sorry you think Randy invented shredding. Sounds like your cd collection is pretty thin. I don't mean that sarcastically or in a mean way, just thats a really innaccurate statement to make. Man, I love Bad English. Classic stuff!

Rock is Cool, Classical and Neo Classical is cool too,,, everyone here has the flair going on in some form or another.. all this talk and no one mentions the hard core rip it in your face no one called them shredders Jazz players, those are the guys that went though-past metal and shredding usually.. I dont know how many jazz guys I know that will shred the nano-notes, and then go into the strangest 6/8 timed stuff..
or Its like listening to one radio station all the time, thats how your going to end up playing. If you dont like it, you wont learn it. then your limiting your horizon ...
Jam to everything !!

kinda cute how these guys girlfriends turned their jammies into little space suits...a bunch of 'tone-less' wanking...should be called: 'a collection of arpeggio licks strung together with speed picking' OOOOOHHHHH, I'm SOOOOO impressed...I don't know, how about writing a 'SONG' that means something? hey, if you got writer's block, then, wank away, but to make a career out of guitar practice chops is so much more the "look at me wank" crud that doesn't interest me in the slightest....(can ya tell?). Hey jim who peed in your coffeee today? You seem unusually disturbed about wanking today. I got bored....whipped it out and took a leak on DirrtyCraigs idol....stand back and watch the show...pretty funny really..

TJ is cool in a 'Culligan Man' kinda way...are you gonna adopt him as your boy? shreder will get jealous! SRV doesn't play anything quicker than an occasional 32nd lick...he's NOT a wanker...part of the definition of a successful 'artist' musician or otherwise, is that you are appreciated by your 'audience'....Paul Gilbert, obviously, is much appreciated here. He is obviously a great guitar player. My 'personal' taste (subjective) is for those that play a different style of guitar...so what? there is no 'right' or 'wrong' here just different appreciations and tastes...fun to slap you around a little though

We know you like to play fast Jim. It's all over your soundbytes. Maybe we at "Teamshred" will take up a collection for you and send you to Bosley medical center. Once re-rooted you'll have a whole different outlook on things.
