None of the licks are hard separately. All i'm saying is that at full volume, with no effects (cause there isn't any really), its a hard solo to play at full speed cleanly, or as clean as the recording. Hard being subjective, yeah its no Greg howe solo, but its hard in the context of average everyday guitar players and certainly light years beyond what the kids are doing nowadays.

I like to play dry ala Gilbert. you can hear all the stuff, good and bad when you play dry. It just sounds better to me. And you can't hide behind a 300ms delay,, LMAO.

I never approached playing guitar that way...stringing licks together to form a solo...when I was in a copy band I had to learn alot of that stuff (like the 'Free Bird' solo, about 7 different REPEATING licks, mix em up and play each one about 4 or 5 times in a row and there it is)...I never really liked those type of players...I like the reckless guys flying off the handle, see what happens...licks, bends, arps, scales, riffs, trills stick in blender and let it rock!

And you can't hide behind a 300ms delay,, LMAO. actually you got to have at least 500 ms delay to thicken er up...if someone can't play there isn't enough effects on the planet that will 'hide' it...it will be evident. Then you will sound bad as well as not be able to play...actually most guys that I see that are bad players aren't smart enough to try and hide it with effects...they THINK they are better than they really are, therefore it is MOST evident that they can't play...as for me, it takes a little while to tell that I can't play because I'm at least smart enough to be hiding behind all those effects! hehehe...

That's where its at. TAKE SOME CHANCES! I get so bored watching the "safe" players, even if they are super tight. I guess thats why I always loved guys like Hendrix and Page, they weren't afraid to go out on a limb and experiment. More than often it didn't work, but when it did...those were the magic moments! Oh and Craig...I think your bias towards effects is a little off. If someone doesn't know how to play, there is no hiding it. Using delay is the worst effect if you don't know how to play along with it. There's nothing hidden there, just alot poor syncopation and jumbled notes. Delay is a trick or tool just as the finger tapping is if you know how to use it. I never used delay until a few years ago because I never got it, it was just jumbled when I played along with it. I went back to it now that I realize it is something you must practice just like any riff or tool you use. I'm not saying you don't know how to use it, I'm just saying that it takes skill and good feel to make it sound good and its not something to always hide behind.
