Look, I like George...I haven't seen him in...I don't know...25 years...but...this video SUCKS! he has SSSSOOOOOO much crap on his guitar I could hardly make out what he was playing...WWWAAAAYYYY too much 'bathroom' reverb and echo...he was playing like that when I knew him... he's added a few more VERY SLOPPY arpeggios and a couple of what I call 1/2 diminished licks...most of his 'fast' lines were so slurred because of all the crud hiding his tone...I'm not impressed...I've seen him play better 25 years ago! TRULY!
UPDATE: I watched it again just to make sure...TERRIBLE! do you know how easy it is to play those licks with all that crud on the guitar? man, When I knew him, I knew he NEEDED alot of gain to HELP his really light touch (I have a light touch too but his is even lighter than mine...he also ran his string height so low that it fret buzzed all over the place...) doesn't matter when your notes are swimming in a TON of reverb, gain and heavy slap echo...even I can play like that with all that crud on the guitar...

I fully admit that there's some mess ups in there and there's WAYY too much verb...that could just be the room though....I'm sure he had some verb on it, but I highly doubt that much....
anywho, I would hardly call his playing sloppy in this video...
this video's about 25 years old or so, by the way =)
I knew you wouldn't be impressed jim, but then again, I didn't post it for you anyway...lol...

Look, I love George, I don't want to throw rocks at your idol...but, he can do better and I'm sure DOES do better than that...if he didn't have so much crud on his guitar the tune would have been better..But, man, this brings back some memories...George doesn't have the greatest confidence and sometimes hides behind alot of gain and crud (shoot I do too) he still plays those sorry super fast pentatonic 'slur' licks...looks like his left hand isn't fast enough to play the lick so he tries to move his wrist around real fast...man he played those all the time, I guess still does...it was those things that I saw the guy from Ratt (demartini) cop from George...

George is no better of a player there than when I knew him...the same...so, people that tell me: Oh, George is SOOO much better than when you knew him are wrong (if this video is any indication of his further 'greatness')....craig told me to listen to his stuff now... so I went online and got a couple of Dokken live DVD's w/ George on guitar....I'll see then...(one was: live in Japan and the other is some kind of acoustic set with George on electric...) He looks silly with the BIG hair...his hair was much shorter when I knew him...he was a truck driver and the company wouldn't let him have it long..

Yea Video is poor.. recording quality bad.. but .. there isnt enough personal recorded footage of any guitarist out there, just having fun playing. when I see personal video like this, I like it. its all real deal. its not stage or mixed console tracked, just having fun..

sorry super fast pentatonic slur lick? not sure what that means exactly...but, I'm pretty sure he's not guilty of that..there's about 5 guitar tracks in this song in the studio version..pulling it off live with only one guitar is no small feat...
this video's very old, about 20 years or so...
the tone's fine, but I do agree there's wayyy too much effect on it....I can hear all the notes fine....then again, I'm used to being able to hear things other people can't...cause I'm accepting of the fact that I have better ears than most..
if God Almight Himself played for you you'd find a way to pick him apart, jim...lol....in fact, the only guy you haven't actually picked apart was randy rhoads if memory serves correctly =)
anyway, it makes me realize how interesting it'll be once I get around to posting some of my own stuff..in some twisted way, I actually look forward to it =)
