lots of guys are influential though..let's not mix arguments here...lol... EVH was big into cream....THAT's one of HIS influences.... if we're gonna talk influences then you have to bring up the likes of Paige, Beck, Hendrix, etc, etc, etc.... but that's not the argument =) or debate..or whatever the hell we're calling this miss mash of a friggin' thread.......lol.... I just think I'm not starting threads anymore..cause it seems the more I do, the more they turn into totally off topic debates.... influential doesn't mean one person's influences...it means influencing a whole generation/movement...and in that definition clapton/randy is influential...nuno is not! you're right....nuno's not..wrong place, wrong time....he came around a time when guitar was starting its slow death...a downward decline that we're still just trying to get ourselves the heck out of....back in the 90's when he was breaking, people were starting to care less and less...grunge came out and pretty much destroyed the musicianship that we grew up with and loved...STILL love.... this was never about influence..it was about who's better than whom..which is really as queer as a person can get, but that's what this ended up as...by nobody's design...lol..you know how these threads are

Al DiMeola has more talent in his cuticles than 9 outta 10 guitar players I've ever run into on any board or in person for that matter =)

I certinaly can deny that nuno is EVH junior...I'm not talking influence wise or anything....strictly from a technical standpoint....nuno is better than eddy...he can do eddy simply can't....he's a twisted guitar wizard have you ever listened to any of john norums solo albums? or just what he did with europe? listen to his work on the Don Dokken solo album, AND his solo albums, then we'll talk, dude....his phrasing is crazy... I don't see any of these guys as God's anymore, dude....I see guys that I like, guys that I don't like...guys who I wish I was as good as (not sound like, but could play as well as) and guys that I can't stand....I haven't worshipped a guitar player in over ten years.... I don't try to emulate anybody...I don't try to cop other people's links... this reminds me of Metallica syndrome...that band could put out a phuckin' polka album and blind metallica fans would tout it as the greatest cd ever and it would go platinum by lunch of the release day.... I'm a fan of music, but I don't follow anybody blindly..as much as I love Lynch, I don't worship him as a good..cause technically there's guys out there better than him... oh, here's a few more Marty Friedman Jason Becker (poor guy..really sad situation) Steve Stevens Pablo Gilberto =d I will not deny that RR was very influential in his day...even though he was really just tryin' to cop EVH back in the day after EVH broke..then even lynch fully admits that they ALL WERE.... but I'll tell you one thing..I don't worship RR, I hardly listen to the guy and I play ok....lol.. i have no comment for what you just posted... wait, yes i do...i'll start with nuno...great player but EVH jr...you can't deny that... john norum...you gotta be kidding right...that's not even worth arguing over al dimeola...when was the last time you went home and put on an al dimeola song...i mean SONG... as for the other three...read my post about accomplished versus INFLUENTIAL... that fact that you don't see randy as a "god" like you said is completely unbelievable to me... nuno is an eddie clone...nothing more...hell VH should get co-writing credits for at least the first 2 albums...and i'm a guy who went to see nuno at the channel club w/extreme in boston way before they even got signed... john norum...i'm speechless...just speechless marty friedman/jason becker...great players...but putting them in the same league as randy?...when i mean league i don't mean who can play the hardest sh!t...i mean...place in history...and that doesn't mean who came first... steve stevens...probably the only guy in that entire list you listed that is even close to doing anything original pablo gilberto...ywho??...'nuff said

I would call Nuno influential. Maybe he wasn't to you. But think of the young guys that were coming up in the late 80's early 90's. He was an influence to them. I don't think he's an Eddie clone. I think he took a bit of what Eddie did and compounded on it. But then again that's my opinion. I think Nuno has gone astray as of late. He needs to realize that he's a rippin player and quit trying to be Prince.
Shredder,
Virginia Luque was Andres Segovia's understudy. She'll knock you senseless with her playing. Brent Mason: Nashvilles top session player. Friggin freak on the guitar. He plays all styles and flat out rips on all of them Tuck Andress: Guitarist from Tulsa, OK. He's a trip. Plays in a duo with his wife called Tuck and Patti. You'd swear there was a full band playing as he does all bass lines, harmony, melody on the guitar by himself without using effects. Ben Lacy: Same vein as Tuck. Will freak you out when he does renditions of Steely dan songs by himself. Was a total shredder back in the day and can wail when he wants to.

Although Zakk, Jake and Warren are great guitar players in their own right, Randy was tops in my book. He was more of a real musician than the other cats, an innovator and wrote some songs the still are relevant today. The same can't be said of the other guys work.
As far as who's better, they are too different to compare. I do think with Randy's road chops late in the Diary tour, he would have handed those guys their asses in a head cutting contest, we'll never know tho.
I didn't care too much for his tone but he was great live. Jake's tone sucked equally as well but I never saw him live.

vitto bratta....great player..but THAT's an EVH clone...nuno? I don't think so... go back and listen to pornografitti....yeah, uses two handed techniques alot, but doesn't sound like EVH to me.... I will admit that on the first album he's a little on the EVH side... once again, I can't stress enough that this thread didn't start out as a 'place in history' type of thread... as far as john norum goes..he's a phucking animal....I can tell you ahven't listened to any of the albums I've mentioned... yep, paul gilbert....freaky fast monster...BUT, does so with style..knows when to use it and when to turn it off.... dude, I never argued about RR's place in the world as an influence....I've said that many times... but if you're goign to do that you might as well mention tony iommi and what he was doing with black sabbath..arguably the first real 'metal band'..even though I can't stand them.. see, that's the difference between me and some of the other posts going on here....I can not like a guitar player's style or music, but I can STILL give them the credit they're due for certain things... zepplin....can't stand them....hendrix, can't stand him....RR, don't particularly like him...but I can say that they're among the most influential bands/individuals of all time....there's no doubting that... my like/dislike of certain things doesn't color my perceptions....
