I think Vom said it best. Still the same tone, just a little more saturation. Shred, this year it will not be a problem at all. Hopefully I will feel a little better so I can hang out a little longer. good! being that you look like dave mustaine's long lost twin, I have high expectations... don't let me down lol

hi guys theres no seven string emg guitars in my collection..never will be either..not my thing!! from all the research and demo's ive been listening and watching etc..i think i just prefered the type of gain from the nitro.. im not really looking for a mega versatile amp..i used to own an engl special edition.that was very versatile. but i love the splawn tone..hence my decision to buy one. i was just never 100% sure which one?? but after watching the clip of scott in his shop with vom and tj there..i thought thats it!! thats the sound i want.. thought it was spectacular sounding!! everyone is different about the kinda thing they want..same with the guitars we all choose.. many like myself are les paul players where other prefer fender, jackson, prs etc... coop, alot of people make the nitro out to be some kind of "nu metal" amp...i don't see it that way...i see it as simply having more gain than the QR...sounded good for the 80s metal stuff...at least it did to me...so i think'll cover your sykes tones Not trying to crap in anyones wheeties here . I owned a nitro for a couple of weeks . The tone is similar to the Q R at best . if you think you can tweek the nitro to sound like the Q R you can't . Or at least I couldn't . The nitro has way more sag and some fiz to it as well . Some of the fiz can be gotten out adjusting the bias . but I never could get rid of all of it . That being said the nitro is a good sounding amp . Just not what I was looking for . I would hate to see someone buy one thinking that it was just a darker Q R cause its not . Thats what I did . The Q R and the nitro are 2 completely different amps . I personally like the tight articulation the Q R has . Alot of people don't like it and think the amp is stiff . Those people will probably be more apt to like the nitro . once again my 2 cents

i agree with splatter that the two are different amps. you can get the two to sound similar but they definately feel much different. there are also differences in inherent voicing. i love the nitro and i love the QR, but for different reasons.
i don't think the nitro is "fizzy" personally. it's just got a slightly looser gain, hence the increased saturation.

either way you can only know what's right for you if you play one...personally i don't think darrcooper is going to have a problem liking the amp...you can do 80s metal tones out of it

for me,i want to stay as far from 80's tone as i can,now early 90's to me started to change tone wise, skid row slave to the grind. there should be a law on how much reverb and delay can be used, like a breathalizer we need a reverbalizer test.ha ha

I have owned both amps. My concensus is the Nitro is everything the Quickrod is not. The Nitro has more guts and a little more forgiving. The Quickrod has pronounced upper mids and is more focused. Both amps are super articulate though. Notes ring clearly out of both amps equally. I never thought of the Quickrod as being stiff. I definantly don't think the Nitro is a loose or boggy amp. The resonance knob controls all of the loose tight feel. Having the resonance at noon or one is perfect. It tightens up the bass and slightly compresses the overall tone. As far as tone or gain. To me they both have the same gain and overall tone. I guess you could say that if you looked at a 20 band parametric eq of the quickrod's frequency repsonse and then inverted it you pretty much have the Nitro. Basicallly the same amp one brighter one darker. You cannot get Quickrod tones out of a Nitro and you cannot get a Quickrod to sound like a Nitro. I play in drop C most of the time, so I wanted a more saturated darker amp than the Quckrod. Scott has nailed what I have been looking for in an amp with the Nitro. Believe it or not, the Nitro doesn't sound half bad through some well broken in GT12-75's. Not ideal, but not bad.

Hey Snappinnecks(Stuck Mojo reference?),I agree with you on your review.I usually run my resonance at 0,but I might try that. What do or did you run your presence at?You stated that you have "owned" both amps,do you still own one or the other?

OOOPS!!!!!!!!! I currently own a Nitro. Yep Stuck Mojo reference. I almost got killed in the moshpit at one of their shows quite a few years ago. My presence is at I think noon or one o'clock. I'm liking OD1 better than OD2 I think. I have the bass at 1 o'clock, mids at 11 o'clock, treble at noon, gain at 1 o'clock. I have found that OD 2 gets a little hairy for doing pull offs and other open note stuff. OD2 does rip on drop tuned one finger powerchords though, so I'm kinda torn. OD2 does add a considerable amount of bass to the overall tone just like a quickrod. I'm thinking I'm a OD 1 fella for now. I'm going to borrow a Maxxon 808 to put in front of it too see what happens. I am more than satisfied with the tone I have now, but curosity always kills the cat (I still have 8 lives left ha!).

i appreciate all the comments and input guys..im not looking for a darker q/rod..im just looking for the sound thats best suited to me..my own!! which at the end of the day is what were all looking for.. i use sykes 87 tone as a reference..thats the ballpark im looking for..i mean its never gonna be exactly the same.. what did it for me was the youtube clip of scott in his workshop, and the clip of VOM at the convention with TJ.. the rhythm sound that vom had i thought was amazing!! that was 1 of the reasons for changing my mind to the nitro from the comp.. im not a dropped c-b-a or whatever player..maybe once in a while dropped d.. being in the uk has its limitations to buying boutique amps.. i bought last year a custom audio amplifiers od-100se head and cab..again with only 1 dealer in the uk i bought on reputation..cost me mega bucks.. basically $5500.00///£2700.00. clean was beautiful..od channel i thought was sh!te!! if anyone wants an amp with loads of sag and fizz..then buy a caa.. im not knocking at j/suhr at all..its just what i thought of it.. but there again.........reb beach loves em!!
