i ordered this after hearing the clip on youtube w/scott playin in his shop......thats what i hope it sounds like,to me it was far from high pitched, from vid it gave me an impression of an aggresively angry, very big marshall, with huge balls, something my jvm doesnt do. I was standing right there when that vid was made and that's exactly what it sounds like. Don't worry you're going to be crazy pleased with that amp. Ditto: I was standing there doing the video...that amp ruled.

I honestly think you'd have to listen to the person making the comments clips and then judge for yourself. Not saying anybody can't play but to me....if you're going to say another amp is better than the Splawn then post a clip of your playing so we can hear it and see the caliber of player it is making the comments. In my opinion The Nitro rules and there's no need to boost it or do anything but plug in and play. I dialed in the amp in less than two minutes and thought it was great. I don't see how anyone could say this amp has a piercing high end. Wow!!! :-) At the price point of the amps I own, whether one amp is better than another is solely about personal preference. No need to get bent out of shape because someone doesn't like something as much as you do. I wrote what I felt and heard. To some people other amps are better than Splawns - maybe not to you. I've been playing on/off for about 20 years and owned numerous high-end amps from Mesa, VHT, Bogner, ENGL, Rivera, Diezels, EVH, among others. The Diezel Herbet is and likely will be my all time favorite amp. Fortunately, I have the means to be able to buy whatever amps I want, so I can own several amps. Dude I'm not getting bent out of shape about anything. I just responded to your post and said how I feel about it when people respond about different amps and how they're much better than another amp. I don't put any stock into their opinion if I have no idea how they play. I'm glad that you have so many amps and have been playing for over 20 years and you have the means to buy whatever amp you want. Not sure how that was relevant to my post ? But that's awesome!! Record some clips and let's hear ya!!! 20+ years of playing ought to have given you some serious chops that you need to share with us through the NItro! I personally have experience with the Nitro and thought everything you put in your first post was completely off. Only reason I responded. You're entitled to your own opinion. As I am to mine. So..........Cool!

^Rightly or wrongly, I took your post as an afront to me - in that since I don't like the Nitro as much as other amps, I must suck or don't know what I'm doing. I listed my amps to give an idea about what other amps I have had experience with. Sorry if I was mistaken. I will say though, from my posts on other forums, I'm not alone in having the issues with Splawn amps as I laid out in my initial post - specifically the piercing highs. One Splawn dealer said that he had some of the same issue and basically said he turns the treble completely off. I have also come to find that v30s are probably a major part ofthe problem. I'll probably just go ahead and buy a Splawn cab with the big block/small block x-pattern or something. I'm a decent enough player, but or all my years, I should definately be alot better than I am. I'm a guitar hobbiest, that's all I ever will be or care to be. One of these days I'll buy the necessary equipment to do clips, but for now, I don't have the time or patience to deal with it. Plus, to me, buying recording gear isn't as fun as buying guitars and amps.

i think it's always hard to read people accurately online in these formats. no need to take the offensive or whatever. i'm just saying that in general and not directing it towards anyone in particular. i agree we all can have our own opinions and sometimes that can clash with others. anyways, i've met matt before and he's a cool dude. the guy isn't running his mouth or trying to start anything. he can riff it out and has a passion for gear/tone.

I first was running my QR thru a Recto 2X12 with V30's...I couldn't dial out a weird high end...then I got the Splawn 4X12 with X patterened Eminence......BANG!...incredible tone!

Thanks Windsen. I guess I should say that I played Windsen's Nitro back in November when he had the el34s in it through his Splawn cab. I thought it kicked ass then and basically knew I would buy one. When I got mine I didn't get that same happy feeling.

no prob matt.
oh and i realized this last night as i was playing my new QR. i totally forgot but i usually put a couple of "hi-gain" rated jj preamp tubes into my Splawns. they are basically like the stock jjs but are rated to give a bit more thickness and saturation. i had them in my old QR, just put them in my new one last night and yes now that i remember, i do have one or two in my nitro. definately helps. not that it needs it, but it's just something i had been using and decieded to try it in the nitro and liked what it did. it's something you might want to consider too.

you have to keep in mind that alot of things depend on how you perceive an amp that have nothing to do with gear...the room/your mood/etc.
one day your amp sounds like the greatest thing ever...others...not so much...
i love that about tube amps...it's almost like they're living/breathing

Cool. Maybe I'll try those. I do have an assortment of pre's to try with it. Ans suggested RFTs - which I have a few in my Herbert that I'll try.

For me whichever cab sits in one particular location in my room always sounds better to me than the other cab I own. Another issue is voltage fluctuations. Since I started using a Furman AR-15II, I never have "bad amp days."
