Hi all, recently I just got a 2009 nitro head that is a awesome head but 2 days ago I noticed when I turn the standby switch on it make a crackle sound for 10 seconds before it fades which I found out from Scott that it’s the loop itself due to when u bypass it there’s no noise! Now my question is should I be concerned about using the loop volume due to it may hurt the amp or should I not worry and just live with it? If anyone has had this happen please let me know and how did u fix this issue! Thanks guys Attachments:

I had similar issue in past with Marshall amp and it was a bad tube associated with the loop. Changed the tube and voila!

Did Scott say that the loop pcb was bad and needed replacing? I think I’d ask him about that. Since you bought it used (I assume) that wouldn’t be covered under warranty, and I’m sure he wouldn’t volunteer to fix it free. And from what I understand it is easy to replace if need be. I have no idea about the cost, however.
If Scott says it’s ok and nothing to worry about, then that’s what I’d do.

Scott told me to try to bypass the loop and see if it goes away which it did but my main concern is if I decide to still use it will it hurt the amp? I honestly forget to ask him that and don’t wanna bother him again! The loop does work well besides the noise for ten second when powering on so don’t know what to do here!

Honestly, if I were you I’d bother him again. I feel like you need to know the answers to your questions. And I don’t know that I can give you those answers....I just don’t know if it will hurt the amp. I wouldn’t take the chance if I didn’t have to.

I will for sure,I just tried it again now but tried turning the fx loop all the way up on standby and powered up and there is no noise at all,Then once I got no noise I lowered the fx loop volume and had no problem, maybe it’s too much of a shock to have it on when first turning on,hope my amp ain’t messed up,please let me know what u think now? Thanks brother

Honestly, I think you should talk to Scott about what you’ve learned. My QR doesn’t do that at all. It works fine from the start. I really don’t know enough about the design of the amp to diagnose anything for you. Sorry. But like I said, if it were me I’d want to know what’s going on and if it’s ok.

First of all.....Happy New Nitro Day Just my opinions here: (Edit: kinda sounds like a bad solder joint at the FX loop board. It has a separate board IIRC.) + My amp doesn't sound really great until after 5 min or so but yeah....maybe that fx volume pot is scratchy....pretty easy fix I think. Def let Scott guide you... Amazing man. What condition is the amp in? Have you cleaned the fx sockets? What else is in the loop? BTW - I don't think this will hurt your amp at all - this crackle. Is it only a crackle.? My QR is super quiet, so yeah I think you have an issue. Plug guitar into FX return and see what happens Then plug guitar straight into amp with nothing in loop. Then plug guirar straight into amp with a small 1/4 plug or patch in the loop EDIT Then see if the problem is still there after lube and pull back. Swap preamp tubes just ideas Sorry if I missed any important details report back and good luck!

The amp is a 2009 nitro and great shape, check pics the chasis is a little dusty from what I can see but pretty clean, haven’t check the fx sockets due to I’m not a amp tech and ain’t too good with that kind of stuff, the problem seems to be only within ten seconds of powering on then it’s gone, also as u move the loop volume down to lower the amp the noise gets louder, when u crank the loop it goes away due to if you bypass it fully it goes away, I’m going to call Scott on Monday but I just kind of wanna clear my head intill I call him!

Like Splawndude said... i would try swapping pre amp tubes. Isn't one of them associated with the loop? Old tubes crackle at start up from my experiences.
