I don't mind switching gears for different tunes, its onlyone knob. thats what I did Saturday.. in that video I'm using 2nd gear and then in the second solo swithed to 3rd. I mean I usually go grab a towel, light up a smoke or swig of beer anyway, so it only takes an extra second to switch to 1st gear for say Ac/Dc or VH. I did Hot For Teacher Saturday on 1st gear and it rawwwked..

Well, up until Saturday so did I and played EVERYTHING on first gear. But when I hit a lead that went to 2nd gear anyway.. so if you used a lead boost you were using 2nd gear.

gain, GAIN and more GAIN!!! as long as I'm not losing any note definition, the MORE GAIN the better!!!! you panty waisters can can fool with the gain knob all you want....Scott might as well hard wired mine dimed ...and, I wouldn't mind if he doubled the saturation on third gear OD2 with gain DOUBLE DIMED!!! YEAH!!! as long as I have note definition GIVE ME GAIN!!! (tube gain NOT distortion box gain).

I definetly dig the sound of OD2 on gear 1 with the gain wayyy up for rythm..but for leads, that's another thing....
as jimbax said..more gain dammiit!!! heheh..I'm gonna experiment tonight..who knows, maybe I'll lower the gain on third gear but use OD2 for rythm and just bam! right into the solo boost...heheh....
it's weird cause I like the same type of attack for lead and rythm...

look, Splawn is a HIGH GAIN amp you don't buy the thing and run the gain @10 o'clock...that's an insult...next thing, I'm gonna hear that someone here ordered a new Ferrari with white wall tires and an AM radio....

I guess withthe QR's some can get away with the bass dimed but the speakers would fall out if I did that with the PM! I just love the bass on that thing. Super tight and thumping=palm mute heaven!! I still haven't settled but this what I have mainy been using: Presence 2 (all o'clock), Bass 10, Mids 2, Treble 1,Gain 3-Dimed, 2nd Gear, OD2. I'll be honest, I could use a bit more gain or saturation. Like the others said, MORE GAIN. I got a fever and the only thing that can cure it is More GAIN! As long as its not muddy/buzzy/fizzy which never happens with the PM (halleujah I am saved finally!!)

you know, I thought you guys were all crazy..talkin' about this diming gain crap!
color me corrected....first gear, OD2, gain dimed....nasssssstyyyyyyy...of course, I'll probably change my mind 8 more times between now and gig time and you never know what a room's gonna do to your sound, but for bedroom wanking, this is the shiznit....diming the gain just brings out the bass soooo much, it's sick

look, Splawn is a HIGH GAIN amp you don't buy the thing and run the gain @10 o'clock...that's an insult.... Respectfully, I couldn't disagree more. I can't speak for anyone else, but even a high gain amp can have tons to offer at less than extreme settings. Even at 10:00 the QR's plenty and l like to get those power tubes working. Plus I like that rhythm clarity it gets at that setting. It's easy to fool yourself with gain, it can be a crutch, so I like to use "enough" but no more than that, as little as I can get away with and still have that crunchy, sustaining yet clear tone. Hard to describe but easy to hear (like the opening chords to DOA). Even with an awesome articulate amp like the QR, at some point with more and more preamp it becomes a more dominant factor in the tone equation and can obscure the other factors. There's a balance there. So it's that mixture that's important to me, but I'm weird that way. Now that i think about it, all my favorite tones are from players that make it sound heavy but if you really disect just the guitar tone itself (less the 'touch factor") it's really not got alot of gain. Anyway, there's no blasphemy in running an amp at a less than extreme setting. Shoot, Scott designed the thing and even he uses the gain at about noon.
