well, since your not playing death metal...JB pus are VERY heavy in the top/mids and the QR is a major 'upper mid' amp...with my set-up I run: presence 2-3 (all o'clock), bass dimed, mid and treble 12 noon, gain dimed...it 'cuts' WAY better than my class A amps that tend to blend and get lost in mixes...which is another question: do you want to blend or offend? jimbax and i are similar in this regard, i also have the bass dimed and the preamp dimed...for most of the time...for certain tunes, like "867-5309" the gain is dialed back to about 11oclock or so... we do that song too =D what self respecting cover band doesn't, right? hahah anywho, I play that like I do everything else just about..with crushing distortion if I need less, I just roll off the volume..

I've been using them for a long time. Doesn't hurt my tone at all. Some use them and some don't. I think one of the best shows I saw last year was Joe Bonamassa. He was using Marshalls and Buddah's and both amps were shielded. Sounded amazing!!

Sounded amazing!! the shield isn't the point as much as the monitor mix...I like to have my amp as my monitor as opposed to having it under the stage pointing toward Cancun and shielded with mics on it...go up on stage and I have this monitor with drums/bass and vox blasting and my guitar sounds like a line 6 way back in the mix in the monitor...if you have pro sound guys with good ears and half a wit then it is OK but mostly I have suffered when I have to deal with a shielded amp and a wankity monitor mix...sound guys do it to control the mix on stage (uneven levels, bleeding into mics etc...) I like for everything to blend, man it's rock n roll isnt it? sound guys like to be in total control, which usually means a wank monitor mix for me and therefore a sub-par performance because I can't hear myself...

Is still say this amp sounds great at any volume.. When John from Physical Graffitti came over here to pick up his amp were were jamming and tweaking till 3 AM in my home office/studio, and never put the master past 8 o'clock.. its sounds awesome. Maybe its guitars too? My Mansel sounds insane and he has a couple of 1960 Les Paul reissues that sound great too.. The Mansel weighs more than a Les Paul,, it just a slab of mahogony. i gotta meet up with you and your buddy john...that would be great!...although i'm still fearful of those big feet

I also use my cab as a monitor...i've had to depend on monitors before with bad results..even though the house mix was good, the monitors sucked... which is another reason why I went with a 4x12..I think they project better...and you don't have to 'raise' them like a 2x12 to hear a good sound...cause mids and treble are rather directional and bass isn't, I found standing up in front of my old 2x12 would make it sound muddy and lose, but sitting in front of it it sounded fine..so a 4x12 remedies alot of that

Usually if I set my stage tone and think it's good and then walk out 100ft I find that I need less treble and more mids to cut thru. We don't have a soundman but our bass player has a wireless and he is the judge. Also...I tend to point the mic at roughly the same place on the speaker but when I'm recording just a little angle or placement makes a huge difference. Bottom line....your stage EQ/TONE sounds different out in the audience. MIDS are your friend. You should check if you can. For those lucky enough to afford a soundman.....disregard.
