www.randallamplifiers.com/News-and-Reviews/News/Ola-Englund-Summons-Satan.htmlNot a fan of the name Satan for an amp, but it is voiced to stay tight with 7-8 string guitars. That means those of us who play in drop B or Bb will finally have an amp that doesn't have to be modded, eq in the loop, boosted, or any other trick to get the tight chunk we all desire out of it. This is a "modern" voiced amp ;D I'm probably going to catch flack for this post, but this is how you label an amp modern. Modern rock/metal guitars are almost never in standard tuning thus the need for a tighter amp with more mids/upper mids. As far as I concerned you could name the amp whatever, but as long as it delivers the tone who cares. P.S. Even though I'll probably get one of these my 2005 3 pre Quickrod will still reign supreme and not leave the studio.

I'm def not a fan of the name either, but curious how it sounds. I play a good bit in Bb, my QR is good and chunky, just hafta roll off the bass a bit an add some presence. Works for me, anyways!
Modern voiced can be quite a dangerous conversation, but I think you're right in your analysis. I hear a lot of "modern" stuff as being buzz saw, mid scoop, and over compressed. It should be what you said, and cater to the down tuning and chuggalugging around.

Check out the Rhodes Colossus amp. I have heard the pre production Satan/Natas at namm this yr right next to the Colossus at the Strictly 7 booth and well... the Colossus was head and shoulders above!! Very versatile amps too not just for modern metal. If there is another amp for me other than my QR it is the Colossus!!

Too bad it's made by Randall.

Wow love the Colossus. Don't love the almost Diezel price tag. Andy Wood and Tosin are sick guitarists. I think the Randall being around $1700.00- $1500.00 street and probably $1100 after the gas wears off after a month on Ebay makes the Satan amp a steal if it delivers the Fortin tone. I'm not too skeptical about Randall after owning a RM100 and loved it. Had a few fuse issues, but overall a decent amp. It isn't a Splawn of course, but was a good amp for the price I paid new directly from Randall. Still have the hoodie and T-shirt Doug Reynolds sent with it. Time will tell. I'm excited that amp builders are not catering to just the standard tuning players and are build amps built specifically for drop tuned chugga chugga players that probably out number the later these days. I haven't played in standard tuning outside of church since the early 90's. The 3 pre Quickrod is the only amp I have found to really accommodate tunings below drop C and stay snug only needing a slight kick in the preamp (boost) to get things tight and woody. I have written and played primarily in drop B since 98 when I hung up the 7 string Universe tuned to A standard. Drop B just has that elephant sack that is ear candy to me.

I just hope more of Fortin's designs make it to Randall.

Colossus sounds sick! For almost Diezel price tag, I'll just buy a Diezel. Haha. I dabble in drop D down a half step, and Bb on a baritone. I just love the sound of that low Bb, and QR delivers it sooooo well.

Diezel price tag??? Where do you guys buy VH4's for $3050? The cheapest I've seen was $4300 and usually I see them for $4500. I have played every Diezel out there and none of them can touch the Colossus. I mean let's be honest the VH4 should be the VH1 because channel 3 is the only thing to write home about. While its 3rd channel is legendary it is well short of the versatility of the Colossus. Herbert is cool for a bedroom amp but get it out with a band and you'll get lost faster than you can think. And don't even get me started on the Hagan. I have the utmost respect for Peter Diezel, but his amps are not as good as the Rhodes. If Rhodes gets their stuff together they will be as big or bigger than Diezel.

heh, i would be after a used Diezel, i've seen Herbert anywhere from $2400-3000, and VH4 around $2800. i've played Herbert with a band and it didn't get lost, i really dug it. i can't afford one, so i don't have one. i think people use that stupid "mid cut" knob too much and get lost. maybe i'm wrong. i haven't heard a good Hagen clip yet. VH4 is legendary, and kind of "ehh" for me. i would buy a Herbert in a minute to run with my QR.
of course, that just me. everybody has an opinion.

I'm not sure why this amp would be any better at lower tunings then what's out there. Plus, it's got easily, the worst name you could give, well, anything. I can't even take it seriously.

I think the name "Satan" for a metal amp is cool.

It's supposed to have more upper mids and super tight bass character. I'll probably pick one of these up if they deliver as advertised. I'll take the Satan off of it.

Nitro sounds great in A standard, kt88's come alive and tight when you give them some low end to play with. Another amp that likes this tuning is the Framus Cobra.

LOVE THE NAME!!!! However, I don't do metal or brootalz garbage or whatever the kids call it today, but seems like a good amp for those guys! Although I had my three channel Dual Rectifier modified by BFG amps and I think it blows the Satan away, although that is a cool name! I would buy it just for the name though so I can say I have a Satan amp.
