Curious what style of music you all play with your Streetrod? People always associate Splawns with 80s metal and I don't understand why. I find them way more versatile than that. I don't play 80s metal and I love the QR and SR, because they remind me of a better modern day Marshall. I am in two bands, a 90s cover band called pearl Garden and another modern rock/indy project and a Street Rod works well, as does my PWE and Bogner.

Metallica cover band here with a Nitro. I can get the exact tone of the Diezel and Triaxis blend that Hetfield uses live out of my EL34 Nitro with an EMG equipped guitar. No fx, bass at 9:00, and gain at 11:00.

With my Nitro and QR, ive played metal, classic rock, 80's hair, Country, Pop, Southern Rock, Funk... I dont think I need to keep listing them... They worked well for all styles. In my opinion, the player has alot to do with how the amp sounds as well. I have a Street Rod that should literally be here any day now... ill report back then...

I am ordering the head, to look like a Plexi! I no longer play metal, those days are long gone. I also stopped jamming on classic rock - too burned out on that! Originals are all modern rock, indy rock, roots rock. You would think I would be buying an Orange but I grew up on Marshalls and amps like Bogners, Splawns, Marshalls, PWEs, all feel and sound best to me. Cover band I am in plays things like STP, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Tool, Matthew Sweet, Dinosaur Jr, Better than Ezra, Fuel, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Incubus and you get the picture. Honestly, I think a Marshall style amp can cover most anything exzcept the Rectifier thing...but the high gain Red channel Rectifier thing is only good for one thing in my mind and I don't use those tones and I can't solo on those amps. I need an amp that allows me to get lost in a blues or rock solo. A buddy of mine played in a big cover band using a stock Marshall DSL playing everything from Michael Jackson to Metallica and VH to Tool and AFI. With that in mind, I think the Street Rod is better and can do all that.

I ordered the combo with a matching 1x12 cab. Marshall-ish amps can cover about anything you can throw at them from my experience. I am a firm believer that if a player has the skill to play any given style (at least convincingly). For the most part, the rig doesnt matter. I've never cared much about other peoples opinion on my stuff, I just stick with what works for ME.
Your rig is your tool to play the music, not what makes the music. (if that makes sense) lol, maybe nobody cares about my rambling... anywho...

In fact, just a few days ago, I went out to watch a buddies band practice. They were a country group, never had seen them before. Lead guitarist had an AWESOME country tone going. Upon closer inspection, he is playing a Tele into a Peavey 6505+ combo. I honestly didnt expect to see that thing sitting there lol. Usually the 6505+'s are used my metal players...

Just ordered a Super Sport yesterday,I like to play in the styles of Gilmour,Santana (the pre Welcome stuff) Porcupine Tree, Surf and whatever the friends I jam with throw at me. Johnny Cash,The Band, Stones, AIC, Allman Bros. The Wailers, (Jazz , that`s wide open in itself eh ?! ) The low wattage Super Sport will cover most of these i`m sure. Use the clean channel vol on the amp set just below breakup, roll off vol on the guitar a bit. Sweet 6v6 tone... Then open her up from there ! Also A/B with my Gomez "Surfer" 100w,2x15 cab, reverb tank, for even more cleans , ,huge bottom, deepest reverb "SURF CITY ! "

I've played everything from country to death metal with my Quick Rod. I don't even have the seperate gain control for my clean, just use volume rolloff plus I only run it around noon anyway. The streetrod should cover anything you can play.

I can't wait to get my Street Rod head. I think with that, my Bogner Shiva and PWE Event Horizon, I will have all I need for many years. Although a Splawn Super Sport head would be very cool. I think it is sort of like a Plexi? If it takes boosts well, it could be used for anything.
I am not sure the Super Sport would add much to my collection. With a 20th Shiva, PWE and a Streetrod, I have a lot of ground covered.

Hey Don , yes PT is a great band. You can definitely hear many different influences in their music. I usually try to describe them as being a cross between Pink Floyd and Tool. But that only partially describes what they sound like. And everyone that I turn them on to loves them. Anything Steven Wilson touches is gold. OSI, No Man, Blackfield, Damnation, for a few. I will check out Isis, as you have a similar taste in music.Tell me about your Pro Mod , I don`t see anything on the site . Is it a head you had Scott hot rod for you ? And how about your axes ? What do you have/want next ?
