I found out they changed the name to the '78 pickup, it is no longer called the EVH. It can be had in 4 conductor for splitting and with a nickel cover! What is a good matching neck pickup? I am thinking Alnico II Pro neck or Pearly Gates neck. I may put these in a PRS CE-22. Do you use split single coil tones for your clean or do you use all humbucker tone? These days I am trying to just do straight up buckers. By the way, a friend of mine said he used the Eminence Gov's for a while but they lacked low end. Your rig does not lack lows....but that is what the bassist is for. Either of those pups would be really good I think. I pretty much stick to straight up buckers. I dont like having to switch around stuff mid song etc. hahahahah Heeeeeck no my rig doesn't lack low end. I dial back the bass becasue there is a lot available. Was your friend using the Govs in a Splawn cab? Splawns have great bass response etc. I still crack up when I think of the EVH pup....Duncan called it Evenly Voiced Harmonics....AHAHAHAH! NICE.

I am the same ways these days....I hate having to find ways to adjust my amp or volume for single coils. Only time I ever split the coils in my PRS CE was for one whole song, never within a song. We did a few originals that were all clean so it worked but I could have easily used HBs too.
What neck pickup you use?
My friend said he tried the Governors in his Bogner oversized 212 back to back witht he V30s. He said the Gov's were noticably weaker in the low end.

I left whatever the neck pup is that came with my guitars in there. They see very little use.
As to the low end thing, I guess it is like all things....comes down to perspective. For me, I am not looking to move bowels with my amp and detune the guitar into an abyss....I shoot for VHII tone. Thick, power-tube bliss....with plenty of sweet mid-range....but that is me. The GOVs/MOWs do it for me.

Do you have small hands? Those Ernie Balls always seemed really thin to me. You know Kevin, since that EVH pickup has worked so well for you....I might convert my PRS CE-22 from the 5 way rotary to a toggle and push pull pots but change the bridge pickup to the EVH. I love this guitar but I think sometimes it needs something not as hot because all my amps have plenty of power and gain. I hate to think I would have to buy another PRS CE-22 just to get lower output pickups. If these are that good, maybe they would replace my Dragon pickups. Are the EVH/78 pickups fairly creamy? I like rich creamy tone. Do notes fly off the fretboard for solos? I found this: Perfect! www.ebay.com/itm/SEYMOUR-DUNCAN-78-EVH-MODEL-PAF-ALNICO-HUMBUCKER-GUITAR-PICKUP-CUSTOM-SHOP-/260932625879?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3cc0cbe5d7Yea, my buddy is a classic rock and funk/blues guy. Hey, I love your tone, I was just talking about his perspective.

Kevin, which guitar to you feels better for larger people with big hands, the EB or the Wolfie? I find visually the Wolf looks much nicer and I love the neck....just a touch narrow around the nut. What did you think of the stock Wolfgang pickup in the bridge? I thought it was a bit too hot and bright. I think I would install that EVH pickup or the Dimarzio AirZone! That is good to know the Eminence GOV/MOW work so well. I say that because I often hear people say V30s are no good with Splawns but the Gov is a V30 type speaker with smoother mids, similar to the WGS. But, this sounds so good, I might look into that set up you have. Do you think more of that tone was the Eminence GOV/MOW combo? I would end up buying the SR head, not combo and I use 212 cabs, not 412s since the most I'd be playing are jam sessions and small bars/clubs. A semi open back 212 does everything I need. Your tone is off the charts good bro. In fact I can hear in that band context that it would handle modern high gain songs nooooo problem, because I thought Hungry like a Wolf sounded dark and thick, perfect for some of what I do, but great cut. Man, I wish I could use a Wolfgang. I had one years ago but they are too small for me. I am 6'3" with big hands and the Wolfgang always felt way too small in size and the neck was too thin for me. I had to switch it up to Gibsons and PRS. What happened to the solo in "you really got me?" I was all ready. What other Alice in Chains do you guys play? We do Them Bones and a few new ones of the latest CD. We used to play Man in the Box and I know I loved playing that solo. I spent a lot of time getting it spot on note for note to the recorded solo......but I think the audience could care less. LOL. Dude, thank you...I chased my tone forever, but I am so happy with it now. Ever since I found Splawn years and years ago and that sealed the deal. I can get my tone from just the combo...adding the GOV/MOW obviously makes it even better, but i have gigged with just the combo and it worked great. Too bad about the Wolfgang for you....I was using my EBMM that night, but I have a WG and an EBMM EVH as well. I really only use the EBMM now for gigs. All my guitars have the Duncan EVH pickup in them (except the EBMM EVH....the original pup is great) AHAHAAH....we have also was used the solo section for the band intros...hahahah! Sorry! I love AIC. With this band that is the only one we do by them. We play pop rock, modern rock, pop and some priest, sabbath etc. Thanks again man. I love talking about this stuff!

After trying the SR over and over I just think it sounds far too 80s for me. I am in a 90's rock and grunge band and this amp sounds too tight and 80s metal for me. I am also playing in a modern style band, think Gotye meets Matthew Sweet and again I need warmer and more vintage. Oh well. I tried. It sounds late 60s, 70's and 80's to me in many ways. I am new to the amp and am loving it. I am not a 80s metal or hair band type of guy, but a good sound is a good sound. I am thinking of putting some sort of pedal in-line with the clean channel on the SR to give me more variation in distorted tones for times where the plexi is just not right.

Hey Fusionbear! Good to hear from you! Love the street rod tone! I remember you put up a vid of your QR years ago doing an AC DC riff. Loved that too!
