I am upset at you Kevin. Very upset. Now I can't get that Duran Duran song out of my head. Thanks a lot! Ha! Luckily I am a big 80s fan, as is my wife and I know she has like every Duran Duran album. How do you think the Streetrod handles things like Creed, Alter Bridge and newer AIC, etc. Sounds to me like the EQ is very responsive, and from my brief experience playing one, is great. I know what you mean about finding your tone. I fell in love when I got my 20th and then when I got my PWE Event Horizon. Getting a used Streetrod would save me cash but I would rather not have to carry around a combo and my oversized 212 cabs so I would probably get a used SR combo and convert to head. Duncan EVH pickup? Expensive? Maybe it would work in my PRS-CE. I have very long arms and big hands and as great as the Peavey Wolf felt, it felt like a toy. My Les Paul is my main baby. * Would you mind telling me your EQ settings?

The SR could definitely handle Creed etc. I was on Gear 2, gain around 3 o'clock. I still had gear 3 available and the overdrive switch. Treb - 11 Mid - 12 Bass - 11 Presence - 11 The EVH Duncans are pricey. They come from the custom shop. I think the last one I bought was around $200.00. They come hand signed by Seymour himself etc.... You can just call the custom them and ask for the custom shop and they can direct you. I love em'...they are not high gain at all, but ballsy and punchy. Where are you located?

My fear is, how will the EVH work in my PRS guitars, every guitar is different. I am near Philly, Pa.
Since I am not gigging now, I won't be buying any pickups yet. I will remember that pickup for the future. I will probably stick to my Celestions and WGS speakers for now.
You know, I tried liking amps like the Mesa Dual Rectifier and they do sound huge but where I judge an amp for myself is how it sounds and feels for solos, and to me nothing does it like a Marshall style amp, a Bogner, Splawn, etc. My PWE is amazing too!
Your SR still sounds big but part of that is the combo and semi open back. That is why my 212s are all semi open back.

Philly!! I am in CT. I always found that Mesas just never cut like a Splawn. I have never played a better amp. I have played many, many amps...but every time I fire up the Splawn I smile.

Kevin thanks for posting these clips. They are very good samples of what the amp sounds like in a band situation.

Now I have to find a way to afford the PRS McCarty and Splawn SR that I want. I am not in a rush, I'll get em. I have lots of good gear to keep my happy for now. Your tone was thick, rich and gorgeous my friend. Nice job Kevin.

The crazy thing also is that the recording was simply from an IPhone!

Kevin, are the EVH pickups splittable? With nickel covers? They sound thick. I can't find any information on the Duncan site.

If memory serves me correctly (rarely)...I think you can order them with that wiring ability. Nickel covers....no idea. I think they may call a similar pup the "78" or something now. I would definitely call the custom shop. Rock on!

I found out they changed the name to the '78 pickup, it is no longer called the EVH. It can be had in 4 conductor for splitting and with a nickel cover! What is a good matching neck pickup? I am thinking Alnico II Pro neck or Pearly Gates neck. I may put these in a PRS CE-22.
Do you use split single coil tones for your clean or do you use all humbucker tone? These days I am trying to just do straight up buckers.
By the way, a friend of mine said he used the Eminence Gov's for a while but they lacked low end. Your rig does not lack lows....but that is what the bassist is for.
