I have a 2008 Nitro with el34s. Love it. Just sold my 2009 QR. Loved that too but voicing did not suit my needs. New Nitros have less bass, more gain and.. Loop volume. I also would like to have kt88s.
I have a modded 6505+ and a Baron K88. My thought is I would flip the 2008 Nitro and 6505+ if the Nitro w/ kt88s does the trick for me.
Ive been gear whoring something awful this year. Maybe I should stop while ahead......

Why not send it to Scott for an update? He's doing the loop vol & kt88 mod to my friend's '08 Nitro. Call him it's worth a shot.

I know he's likely to not get involved in this but I have enough amps that if the turn around time is months I'd be absolutely fine. Well that was easy.....one reply and Im off the ledge for a minute at least...

Love the tightness and gain structure. I just wish I didn't need to run an EQ in the loop for good cut. Didn't like KT88s in the Nitro at all. Made the tone rounder and less dry IMO.

I love the Ruby el34s in the Nitro. I like to run the gain low and boost with a TS9 for soloing but I never ran an eq in it.
What year is yours ?

Well that was easy.....one reply and Im off the ledge for a minute at least... lol, that was easy! Seriously though I do believe he might accommodate you, my friend shipped his out Wed after Scott gave him the ok. Didn't like KT88s in the Nitro at all. Made the tone rounder and less dry IMO. I did the KT88 mod on my Nitro and really like it, now the bottom end is tighter and more defined and the cleans sound better. Just my opinion though.

You could send it to jerry over at fja....Matt said he did a comparison between his new Nitro with the new updates and the nick supercomp and said they are very similar......just a thought and I know that will bring much butthurt on these forums.lol

Hmm,
I would think the QR would do what you needed, cut through the mix and give you something different? I was looking for a classic sound that would do rock blues and metal, and the QR gives me that. If I found myself doing kid metal, I would def. get a Nitro, lol. Maybe what you are looking for isn't Splawn?
Good luck!

I thought about getting one of his custom handbuilt amps, but after really looking into what he prefers, his custom amp started to look/sound like a better built or modded older 5150 amp. That is actually cool, but not for the price he was asking for the amp. I wouldn't send a Splawn to him after much thought and consideration. I would send it to a tech that prefers Marshall overdrive circuits IMO. Cameron would be great if he wasn't a flake. He seems to have a grasp on Marshall circuits. Scott would be my "first choice" however the man is busier than a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest. I think the mods consist of resistor value changes in a couple of places, but exactly where I don't know. A good tech could follow the circuit path and give ideas as to tone tweaking it maybe?

Idk man,I had a Marshall 1987 modded by jerry and it sounded nothing like a peavey.it sounded as it should a very pissed off and flexible jcm800..

They sounded pretty much the same to me. The FJA modded amp was capable of alot more low end though. too much - like the early Nitros. My buddy who owns the FJA previously had a 2010 Nitro. He seems to like the FJA more though -so maybe he hears more of a difference.
