That thing is going to cut through a live mix like a Dual Rectifier with the cabinet laying face down. Now that's just good! LOL

Yeah sorry if that sounds harsh.. but seriously.. FJA mods guy.. show me a clip with anything hes modded in a live band. All these guys Cameron etc.. its always grab some awesome shredder guy and let him wank in a controlled environment. You can make ANY amp sound good like that.. lets hear that sh!t cut through some drums on a big stage.. or a little stage..

You can say what you want about FJA Craig, but don't talk crap about Cameron. The CCV-100 is my dream amp. I'll be saving up for one eventually Then you can talk that Cameron crap. I would like to go down to the FJA shop to hear what he does to QR's. There are different things he can do to them. I've never seen a clip of an FJA modded QR/Competition. I really don't think he "ruins" them like everyone is implying. Who here has physically heard an FJA modded Splawn in person?

I just recorded some of the sickest rhythm tones I have ever heard with Craig's old Quickrod. No post eq needed on them. Absolutely sick. I really don't see any needed improvements on a quickrod since it has the three gears with the od 2 option. I highly recommend Ruby EL34BHT tubes from Laura (Valvequeen). Don't mod a quickrod. What Jerry does to most amps from my understanding is he clean up any crossover distortion in the amps sweet spot and adds more gain or a second gain stage. A quickrod needs neither. I was going to send my 6534+ to him and have a choke and upgraded output transformer installed, but decided differently after I fixed the low bias issue on it and it really cleared it up. Getting more cut in a Nitro by modding it I can see. Don't ruin a Quickrod by modding it.

If you cant cut through a mix with an unmodified Nitro than you suck at life and need all tube amp privileges revoked.

I'm just not sure why someone would mod a $2000+ handmade boutique amp..I mean, isn't that why one buys something like this in the first place? To get ITS sound?
I mean, it's in essence modding a modded amp...lol...
I understand modding other amps...laney, marshall, peavy...but not something like this...and that goes for any type of amp like this..Straub, Friedman, etc, etc...

I'd like to have a loop bypass for each channel and an external bias screw. Other than that my Nitro is perfect.

I'm with D.C. Why mod a QR to add more saturation and preamp gain? If that's what you want... just buy a Boogie, or Bogner, or any other of the countless amps out there with that compressed, mega saturated sound. After playing Boogies for over 20 years (with a Framus Cobra and and Egnater mixed in along the way) I got tired of getting lost in the mix in a live situation. Especially when playing in a two guitar band. That's why I started searching for an amp with a different sound and character, and why I ultimately bought a QR. I think the QR has plenty of gain, cuts through the mix like no other, and quite frankly... I never grow tired of all the compliments I get from other guitar players and sound guys on the sound of my rig! Just my opinion though.

If you cant cut through a mix with an unmodified Nitro than you suck at life and need all tube amp privileges revoked. You just better hope the other guitar player isn't playing a Quickrod. If he or she is.............you are............lost. Nothing cuts like a Quickrod. I have heard a couple Nitros in a live setting. It sits well in the mix, but does not have as much cut. Cut is in the upper mids. I have owned two Nitros and a couple of Quickrods. Played both in live, rehearsal, and studio. Don't get me wrong I LOVE Nitros, but out of the two the Quickrod fits me better. Low mids is something that works against the tunings I write and play in. The Quickrod compliments MY style. You can put an EQ in the loop and kick up the mids/uppermids to get a Nitro to have good cut.

Interesting. What tunings give a Nitro problems?

Anything below C# or Db you will have issues. Just put an EQ in the loop and crank the mids up a bit and it restores the cut it should have.

That's cool. I usually play in E or a half step down.

Have you tried extended scale guitars for the lower tunings? I use a 27" 7 string and a 27" baritone. The longer scale makes a huge difference maintaining definition. No issues here with lower tunings thru the Nitro, actually it's quite devastating!.. ;D No eq required.
