ill say again that seems like an awful lot of bass and resonance levels to sound good...i tried replicating those settings at home with my nitro and maxon boost, a mesa 2x12, and an EMG equipped caparison, and it sounded like I threw a blanket over the cab...way too dark..

I agree... but if you were to bend over and put your head up to the speaker would it be nice and balanced? just really beefy? or was it ridiculously muffled? only thing I can last think of is the audio technica wireless coloring the sound a bit.. but those things cost a lot of money so I doubt they color there tone... must be a really high end oriented microphone that they use to mic his cab so he backs off on the high or something... Plus I know Joel's a big fan micing his cab in the center of the dust cap which gives the most high end... THEN AGAIN mic placement isn't decided by Joel for shows so I don't know! Scott Splawn should do an interview with him and get to the bottom of this  |

yea i literally sat on the floor and put my ear up to the speakers lol...ive noticed that everything sounds more bassy/boomy when you stand to the sides or above a cab, and alot more trebly/tinny when ur facing dead on...damn frequencies love to fook with us dont they? lol
i dunno ive been tinkering with the controls on my nitro for a while and as of last night these are the settings ive had the most luck with as far as clear, tight high gain thats not overly bassy or honky.
Resonance- 9 o' clock
Presence- set at Noon
Bass- 11 o' clock
Middle- set at Noon
Treble- 3 o' clock
Gain- this one i go back and forth between halfway up and 11 o' clock depending on the guitar im using and the music im playing.
Boost: I set my maxon OD808 with the overdrive at zero, the tone knob halfway up, and the balance maxed out.

ya I understand what you mean about those frequncies playing games with us... that's why i need to get the straight version of my cab cuz the slant just fooks with me completely.

looks like Adam's back to the roadster, I can see the lights on it in the case but I don't see a chord going to the input.. then i see a chord going to the splawn input but it looks like it aint turned on.. someone wanna enlighten me?  |

i still dont even understand how adam could have a splawn and a roadster as a "backup" amp...i test drove the roadster when i was amp shopping and that thing didnt sound good at all to me..its one of those amps where u REALLY have to tweak it just to get useable tones, and when u finally do, its only one useable tone..and the crunch isnt tight at all..very flubby and fizzy..the splawn sounds so much better i just dont get it....

with rectifiers you NEED an overdrive boost... unlike nitros and 5150's (which still sound better when boosted) but you like absolutely got to boost rectifiers... did you try a boost in front of one? and did you try it LOUD? also... I'm thinking that he's using the roadster and not the splawn tbh that's what it looks like.

Are you taking pictures yourself or are you finding somewhere else.
Maybe they were on a intermission and giving the Nitro a break.
Maybe they were in between sets and he was moving from the Nitro to the Roadster.
That Roadster has been there on the live set for some time now.
Maybe the pilot light on the Nitro is burned out.
Unless someone is there that can see or taking better pictures each night that photo is too fuzzy to tell.

i know this is an old post but I just tried the settings I saw on a larger picture of Joel's rig with my nitro boosted with an od808 and I thought it was going to sound flubbity because of how high the bass and resonance are but after letting my ears adjust to the changed tone I don't think I'm going back...it sounds killer. Of course the real test will come when I play with my band and the other guitar and bass join the mix. My other guitar player uses a mesa DR and I've never liked the way we sound together. I hope my sound doesn't get drowned out.
Incidentally, I'm not using EMG's I'm using dimarizio passive pickups (Freds and mo'Joes because I play Ibanez JS guitars) and these tone settings sound wicked even without the active electronics that KsE uses.

I tried his settings the other day... I have a stiletto cab, maxon 808 and a guitar with emgs around so its pretty much the same setup. Im using a 7 string though with an 81-7. I probably would run the bass a little lower but it sounds good. I like the way the amp sounds with the presence really low. I gotta see if it sounds good in the mix though... Im gonna try it out at practice next week
