I was just reading another forum yesterday and saw a picture of Joel from killswitch engage showing his rack with the nitro If you zoom on the nitro amp, it seems that his settings are the following : Resonance : all way up Presence : all way down Bass : all way up Mids and treble : 11:00 gain : 11:00 volume : 10:00 I think they're playing with Maxon OD808 as booster and EMG 85 pickup in the bridge I tried those settings with my nitro and it sounds pretty nice with my mesa v30 cab. This might be the key of Killswitch Engage tone! My 2 cents. Attachments:

I don't have a Nitro but max on Bass seems high to me. I can get some decent KSE tones with my Bass on 10 o'clock on my Quick Rod. Of course he is playing live and has better/different cabs and fingers than I blah bla blah.
Thanks for posting pic here man, cheers.

those settings on his amp really dont make sense to me...bass and resonance ALL THE WAY UP?? lol...ive tried it like that..its just a tad too woofy and to not even have mids and treble halfway up is crazy.
I have pretty much replicated KSE's rig somewhat at home and i dont use those settings and i blend almost perfectly into TEOH cd when i play along. FYI i'm also using an EMG-equipped caparison with an 81 in the bridge.

i don't know about anyone else but with my resonance control..all the way up seems to be less bass than all the way down. if i turn it off it is far more woofy than all the way up.it is like it is backwards.
with the pres all the way down and mids and treble that low it is because of the maxon od808. it is really bright and cuts the lows a lot so it would make sense to do those things to compensate for that set up. and the v30s are more biting and have a mid hump to them as well..so all seems to be in line with what they run and what they use. if i get my nitro up a bit with my v 30 loaded mesa cab it is pretty highendish
he HAS to be running some gain on the maxon to have his gain that low though, no way he gets a killswitch style gain without adding some gain from the pedal with it that low,the good thing is the maxon is GREAT at that very thing.it can be great at mixing gains to get a really good one..some splawn/some maxon...ALL GOOD!!

those are infact Joel's settings... you guys have to remember they use EMG 81's in the bridge now not 85's... and also (here's the big one) Joel is on in ears now. in order to make his amp sound huge and balanced in his in ear monitors he has to have lots of bass and not so much highs... consequently this makes the tone in the room of the mix not the greatest... I was disappointed with the tone I heard at my last KsE show and it was that same rig that you see in the picture. Again, the maxon helps it a bit... and Joel uses new strings each show which you have to take all into account. Picture the tone you hear in your head when you picture those settings, then an EMG 81 (bright), new strings, maxon boosted... and all being fed directly into your ears via in ears and shure sm57's lol... it balances out in the end. Joel should have a monitored rig (that rig) and a front of house rig that is less low-end orientated in my opinion. I'd like for Joel to stand at the front of house position during soundcheck and just listen. (with his in ears out) I could've had him do so because I'm friends with one of his friends... but when i told his friend this it was right when they finished the tour they were just on so I'll try and get it to happen once they're on tour again (a couple weeks)

mixonline.com/live/tourprofiles/all_access_killswitch_engage/Here's something interesting in the article : "Guitarist Joel Stroetzeluses a Splawn Nitro 100-watt head with KT-88 tubes for his main tone, and a Fuchs Clean Machine 1x12 combo for his clean tone. “We are using an Audio-Technica AE 2500 dual-element mic for the dirty tone and an Audio-Technica 4040 for the clean tone,” says guitar/bass tech Josh Mihlek (stage-right). “Joel uses a Maxon OD808 overdrive pedal and a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor on his Splawn, and Maxon AD-9 analog delay pedal and compressor/limiter pedal on his Fuchs.” Stroetzel sings through a hard-wired Audio-Technica AE6100. " You can get about the same picture then the one I've posted here : mixonline.com/photogallery/killswitch_engage/index5.html

In this pic from top to bottom in Joel's rig you see Splawn Nitro Kt88 Korg DTR-2000 Audio Technica 5000 series wireless ISP decimator pro rack G Tour supply multi selector backup head (Fuchs Viper) and for switching from rig to rig Joel has a switcher called a "switchblade" Only thing I'm wondering about is on the mixonline page Adam's tech says he uses a ISP decimator in the fx loop of the splawn, and a boss ns-2 in front of the amp... im wondering if it's just the normal ISP decimator I have or what... also it says Joel just uses the Boss NS-2 but he's got the pro rack g in his rig and in interviews mentions the ISP more then a boss lately...

By the way, if anyone saw Killswitch on the USA 2010 rage tour was the tone good or bad? I'm starting to think it was the room they were in because Killswitch just NEVER has bad tone... and even the vocals were a bit echo-ish that night.

I saw KsE in Charlotte at a medium sized venue called Amos'. I went in expecting to be blown away by their tone and went out a little disappointed. Maybe it was the room or where I was standing? With Adam being the mix/sound genius I expected a little more. One of the opening bands was Devil Wears Prada and I thought they sounded as good or better.

I couldn't agree with you more, I was front row for part of KsE, peaced out due to being crushed by a 400 pound guy (literally) watched the rest of KsE from the balcony and I also agree that TDWP's sound was better. and I also wondered if it was the room that was causing this... I honestly wish they went back to mesa roadsters for our sake... or better yet 5150's those things cut through like no other amp can. not that the splawn can't do do what the 5150 and roadster can but ever since they started using splawns there tone hasn't been impressing me lately... now I know this tone isn't the greatest but at least it cuts through like a razor: (if you can't see, Adam and Joel are using 5150's in this video)

I may be missing something but why couldn't they set the tone to sound best out front then eq the in ear separately to Joels taste. The live stuff on the new cd sounds awesome to me.....

5150's? Ya gotta be kidding! Those amps suck. Are you talking about the new 5150 III or the old Peavey types? The old ones really blow moose....
