Hey Guys,
I know there are a few people on here that like the final fantasy stuff and JRPG's in general so i wanted to post this on here.
I got the full import version of Final Fantasy 13 a couple weeks ago and wanted to give you the run down on it. IT IS AMAZING!!!!! if you played the demo of it you barley saw anything that this awesome game does and does SOOOOOO well.
the general "walking around" and battle graphics are simply stunning,it is almost cgi quality all the time. the cut scenes and actual cgi stuff is like the advent children blu ray and better. of course being in all Japanese i can't understand the plot but i am having so much fun just playing it i can't imagine what it will be like when i can understand the story (side note: to see a black character with a afro with a chocobo in it speaking Japanese just kills me).
the battle system is top notch stuff and smooth as silk, you do not control the other people in your party but you can set them up to do what you want them to do by using the optima system,it is like #12 but a little less in depth, there is attacker, healer, blaster(magic user) enhancer, and jammer. all of which you can set up into different combinations to different people and then you can change them on the fly..and you need to A LOT!! there are some battles that you have to change between three sets of optima change sets numerous times.the enemies have a life bar so you can see the health they have and any buffs they have on as well, also they have a break limit gauge that when it fills up the enemy goes into break mode and your attacks do a ton more damage and you can juggle them in the air with multiple hits.the enemies have a TON of hp and i am really early in the game,i swear the one boss had about 75000 hp and it was the 3rd or 4th boss in the game!! so i would expect some bosses, super bosses and side quest creatures to go into the millions to tens of millions hp area. fun, fun, fun!!
all summons are earned through defeating it in battle and each person has their own summon they are not shared, and believe me strategy plays a HUGE roll in these and all other big battles. the summons are of course awesome looking and after the first use you can skip the big gaudy intro and just get them on the screen, when they are on the screen it is you and the summon..no other characters, the summoned creature attacks on its own while you can continue to attack as well, but you can go into a drive mode that turns your summon into a type of transformer and you ride it and unlock a new list of attack possibilities.
if there is one super drawback to this game it is if you die(lead character in the battle) it is game over!! your team can't revive you so again you really have to watch what you do so you stay alive, one of the really nice new tricks is that there are no magic points so you can use all the spells you want and after each battle all your HP is given back to you,and if you do die in battle they start you right before that battle so you can chose to run past what killed you or restart the boss fight(i got smoked by a boss about 8 times before i finally beat it and i am by no means a newb at rpgs!!)and change your skill set, equipped items, and optima set.
ther is no leveling up,you don't get to "level 50". it is all done with a branching crystal system kind of like the board in #12 but branches out into actual new direction you want to take a character instead of being general. you can keep jacking up the healing tree on one person and the attack tree on another,or blaster or jammer,etc..etc. you get crystarium points after each fight that you use to build your characters, and the better you perform the more points you can get.
i have unlocked a section that allows you to customize items by adding a special item to a piece of equipment to enhance that equipment so i know the possibilities on this will be friggin endless as well.
i am about 10 hours into the game and it is very linear so far..point a to point b.fight some battles, open chests, fight boss, switch to another set of characters to control,no exploring or chance to get lost or stuck somewhere you shouldn't be,but from the reviews i have read this goes away after a while and the world opens up for total exploration and that will be incredible (if this is so far pretty much point and click easy and straight forward and is this much fun and looks so awesome i can't imagine what it will be like!!). gotta go back and play some more,it has been a day!! LOL!!
in closing i need to say..rpg fans, START SAVING YOUR MONEY..THIS IS A GREAT ONE NOT A GOOD ONE,THIS IS THE RPG YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
