I'm reading Amazon reviews of FFXIII & it doesn't sound so hot by many of the reviews... Hmmm... I want to get a PS3 just for this game & God of War 3, but I think I'm going to hold back for awhile.

Some of the lamer characters actually turn out to be cool. Hope toughens up and Snow stops being such a tool. Story picks up a bit too. I'm at the end of Palumpolum right now.
You get Odin fairly early but he's not that great of a summon. Shiva is killer though.

I'm in chapter 9 right now,I have about 18 hours invested in it and here are my thoughts on it so far.
i really love this game, the story- good..not the best in the series but more than good enough to keep you interested.
the battle system- takes a while to get used to depending on the last rpg you played,i really like this as well, kind of a mix of older FF stuff and FF12
visuals-STUNNING!!!! when you get to chapter 9 and are looking out into the sky on the platforms it is breathtaking.this IS the best looking game out there right now.
characters-overall a pretty good mix,i like the fact that it gives you no choice in who you can take(until chapter 10 that is) so you get to see how everyone acts in battle so you have a better idea of who to take to to finish the game according to the way YOU want to play it.i really really like this,i know from my own experience that there is always characters that i did even use in other FF games because i tried them for a few minutes and didn't like them because i had other party members that were part of the team for a longer time and i was used to the way they acted and their skills so this gives pretty equal time to all of them so you can make a more educated choice.
overall-i can't give it a rating as of yet since i didn't finish it but so far i would give it a 8.5/10. the things that people are bitching about online(being too linear, not being able to free roam and pick your own party til late in the game and such) i like this!! i do have to say i miss the whole towns and inns and shops thing a little.i think the fact that you heal after every battle automatically is great, what do you do in other FF/RPGS after a battle??
the battles are TOUGH!!i must have died 50 times in this, until you get the right combo of paradigms you will get knocked on your a$$ a bunch, the enemies have LOADS of hp and their attacks are massive, strategy is the key in this one for sure, but again while it is hard it is never "throw the controller" hard and you get to restart the fight again meaning you can try different things and not worry about did i save it?? did i grind and gain 2 levels that i am now going to lose?? the weapons/accessory system is a little funky for me though, you have to get a weapon/accessory and build it up by adding items to it to make the stats grow.each person has 24 weapons and 8 of them are found or bought to get the others you must build those up with items(each one has three levels all ending in the same final name just with different stats and buffs.) and the same is true about the accessories. gil is almost non existent, the enemies drop nothing and the chests have very little,i literally played for 6 hours and did not get 1 gil!!
i am going to marathon it today(last day of my mini vacation) to get to chapter 10 and beyond so i can start grinding my party for the last push and the boatload of hunts/side quests that are to come. and if you have the guide..take a look at some of the A class hunts..11-16 million hp and stats that are off the charts!!

I've just hit chapter 5 in White Knight Chronicles; it'll be a while before I even start FF.

Just beat Barthandalus in chapter 9. Damn that was a good fight. Took me about 3 or 4 tries.

Beat ff13 a few days ago. Took 60 hrs. It was ok. Gameplay was the best part, Graphics were really good but neither made up for the mediocre story. I could have done without all the characters aside from Lightning and Sazh. The storyline and linear environments were claustrophobic throughout 95% of all the maps. Superbosses are huge but I don't think I'm going through the trouble of leveling up to fight them.
B-
What to play next?

WOW. My friend went on a cruise, so he wanted me to babysit some of his valable items, one being a PS3. I decided to hook it up and go rent FFXIII!!! I REALLY like it so far. The story is the best part so far. The characters are pretty engaging, although not as much as in VII or X. Still great though. Vanille is so freaking hot. I'm not toooo far. Just got to some temple. The game is really addicting though. I haven't figured out how to really gring yet though, because everytime you fight an enemy they disappear. I want to grind! The battle system is fun, and so far the linearity is really fitting to the game. X was linear for a while too, and it's one of my favorites.
BTW somked VI like 3-4 weeks ago. It only took my like 60 hours, and I was totally god like.

The best way to grind is to find a bunch of those slug like creatures and preempt them with Lightnings spin attack thing. Also look into synthesizing weapons.
The game has a ton of post story line gameplay, but it's all killing monsters. THere are no villigers or anything like that. I found it boring.

I've just hit chapter 5 in White Knight Chronicles; it'll be a while before I even start FF. How is that game??? I was looking at a PS3 pack at WalMart, and that was one of the games I could choose. I was thinking of getting that one with Resident Evil 5, but I will have to get FF13 separately. I also want Gran Turismo 5, as I had a blast playing the 3rd one when it came out. Maybe get like a fighting game too. I'll end up buying one before the year ends, I'm sure. As a side note, just got FF Chronicles and FF Origins in the mail (already had FF Anthology). I wanted to get those before you're unable to buy them.

anyone play Resonance of Fate yet? I nabbed Resonance a little while back and although I wanted it on PS3 it still semed kinda pricey. Have to say I love the battle system, something that I foun confusing on occasion with FFXIII. You feel a degree of freedom as you can open the map up as you prefer. I like the steampunk style vibe, it's like Steel Empire (I know it's an old MD shooter, but it had steam:0)) meets Shadowhearts. It also looks like an update to the PS2 Valkyrie profile title. All Tri-Ace I believe. I'm digging it at the mo at least, between bouts of Demons Souls.
