Hello Everyone! Iv been reading this forum for 2 years, and i just finally signed up for it. Woohoo I just placed an Order for a 50watt Super Comp! Im really Excited, but iv just been pondering on the whole 50watt thing. The reason why i went for a 50 watter is because iv gotten ppl telling me after shows that, for what Im going for, i should try a lower watt amp. I'm pretty much looking for some reassurance from anyone who either has a 50watt or even just wants to give me their opinion. Good or bad. Let me know. You can check the band i play in. www.myspace.com/hisdayhascome Click on "No Way Out" Thanks, ( sorry i said 50 watt a million times) = ]

Why did they think a lower wattage amp would suit you?

Just to be able to push it harder. Usually after I say " I'm looking for Warm, smooth, crunchy, articulate" I get " dude, you need 50 watt". In which I do understand that people may not have a clue what they are talking about but, I'v gotten that response numerous times so.

In which I do understand that people may not have a clue what they are talking about +1 The standard comp (not the super) is actually more aggressive and bright than the QR, I don't have any experience with the super comp so I can't tell you how it compares to a Nitro but I assume it would have a similar difference.

I did read that! I also read someone saying the 50watt is more " Pissier" than 100watts. Also the guy at rock solid amps said that there is a different bass response from a 100watt and a 50watt.
After reading up on Splawn, reading the forum, listening to clips and videos, I dig the people and they sound amazing. So I know I'm going to get a great sounding amp, I just wanted to hear what people had to say about the 50watts.
Iv found alot more posts on People talking about 50watts after posting this so, i should have just read back more. haha

Saying that I run both my QR and my Nitro at half power and get great tones at lower volumes. If I want to run them a little warmer then I use my G-Major to limit the output via the FX loops.

there's definetly a difference between 50 watts and 100 watts..when I kick my QR down to half power it's got more sag and sounds a little browner....

But IME this is not the case for Comp vs QR. Comp is stiffer, brighter, more aggressive and more up-front than the QR. My 2 pennies. When I think warm and smooth I think more QR than Comp.

I wouldn't know..never played a competition the way I set it, my QR is more agressive than smooth I dunno...I'd have to try both out before I could really comment on this whole comp being more agressive than the QR issue

I tend to have the QR a little 'spikey'. I've heard it said that the comp is more aggressive, yet every clip Ayton puts out is all about the smooth and warm. More so that anything that Yng has put out since eclipse.

I think he had a QR and the second guitarist had a Comp. He said that the Comp was the less forgiving than his QR. Man I love my Amps at 50 Watts, as you say the Brown sound starts to come through really nicely.

Is that why you're going for the Suck Knob(tm). I have an omnisonic one and as Supercharged mentioned, it gives you a different noise. I wasn't so keen on what it did, but it was perfectly useable tone wise.
I might try running at 100 Watts now I have the G-Major to act as a leveller.
