Anyone here played a Diezel Herbert? Just wondering how the Herbert compares to a Nitro. I have heard some clips of the Herbert but haven't had a chance to play one.

Well............. They both sound very different. I have had the chance to play both, but not A/B for comparisson. The Herbert to me is more saturated and spongier. The Nitro is more articulate and tighter. I wanna say the Herbert has 6 power tubes also but don't quote me on that. The Nitro is easier to dial in good tones. The Herbert takes some tinkering to get sounding good. Given the choice if I had the funds to actually buy a Diezel I would still go with the Nitro.

I think the biggest difference is about $2,500 more in expense for the Diezel. LOL!!!

Herbert is around $4400 new I think, lol.
Hard to compare since the Herbert has more channels and features that can change the overall tone on the gain channels, like the mid cut.

Splawn Quick rod. Two channels. Clean and dirty. What more do you need?
Cost: Under $2,000
Splawn for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Splawn Quick rod. Two channels. Clean and dirty. What more do you need? Cost: Under $2,000 Splawn for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously. Every time I owned/played a multi-channel head only one of the dirty channels were usable and the others were half-azzed. I am now a firm believer in anything more than clean and dirty 2 channels in unnecessary. I don't even use my clean channel much!

I'd like to try a Herbert or Einstein just to check them out. No way I'd shell out that kinda dough. And I love my Splawn!
D.D. you need a Pro Stock w/ KT88's. A PRO MODSTOCK!! ;D

You can get a Nitro, Quickrod, and a Splawn cab for the price of a Herbert. Run both into the cab and I gurantee the tone would kill the Herbert.

Agreed. Totally different animals tonally. I think you need to define what you are looking for and then go from there. I have played both and own a Nitro. Each amp sounds completely different. I dont think any Splawn could sound like anything from the Diezel camp and vice versa.

Hi
I am from belgium and I have played a diezel herbert and vh4 and I own a nitro so I know what these amps sound like. I can tell you this: herbert, very expensive amp, oversaturated, sounds very compressed in a band (don't like diezel). Nitro, now that's an amp!!! Way better tone in a band but less versatile. I can buy two splawns for one diezel so again splawn wins for me. A diezel in europe is about the same price as a mesa/boogie. I prefer the american sound? That's why I have a triple rec and a splawn nitro. Don't get me wrong, diezels are very good but not 4400 dollar good, for that kind of money the splawn kills the diezel in every aspect

Thanks guys...I love the Nitro tone so much I could never get rid of it. Not to mention Scott and crew are the real deal. I am building guitars now and hope to do it for a living soon so I am thinking of getting another amp or two to test guitars through. I think I may just buy a QR to go along with the Nitro and then I should be able to cover all of the bases.

I sold my herbert.I have a nitro and QR.Herbert is to heavy.to expensive. It records like crap.the mid cut swicth is absolutly useless,it sounds like justice for all but crappier.Six tubes is total overkill on power and$$$.I tried every tube(power, preamp) combo and they all sound like dookie. It's a sterile hi-fi amp.Lucky I sold to some sucker on e--bayFor $3,000.Now they cost$4,400 new!!The Herbert has no power cut switch. The midi features and clean channel were all right.BUY A SPLAWN ,STOP CHASING TONE AND MAKE MUSIC.I just wish my splawns had external bias adjust.THank baby jesus for splawn. ;D ;D

Hi,
before I had my Splawn Promod, I've owned a Herbert for one year. In Germany the price of a Herbert is appr. twice of a Splawn Amp. The Herbert is a very good sounding Amp, more versatile then a Splawn and has more Gain then my Promod, but the Splawn for me is much better sounding ! Splawn is so tight and clear, and not in the least compressed like the Herbert is. Don't get me wrong, the Herbert is a very, very good Amp, but Splawn beats it.
Regards from Germany
Markus

Thanks again for all of your input guys. Like I said, I am building guitars and was just interested if the Herbert would be a good addition to the arsenal. But as mentioned above I will just buy a QR to go along with the Nitro and that will complete my guitar testing rig. Batten Custom Guitars will be at Summer NAMM 2010 and I will have a few Splawn rigs there to run my guitars through. Also, I will have pics in the "splawns for sale" section here soon so you guys can see my guitars.
