Hello guys, I've been recently very impressed with the Marshall JVM 210H. I was wondering what the splawn Nitro sounds like in comparision to it's gain stages. I'm looking for a newer tool type sound, but still want an amp that can clean up enough to cover Tools old sounds. Album tones I'm after Mostly Lateralus/ 10,000 days and undertow. Thanks alot guys. If their are any videos or clips you guys have of nitro or jvm and tool. That'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

nitro will tear the JVM limb from limb. Much louder, more powerful, tigher, cleaner sound.
not as saturated as the jvm but with an overdrive pedal boosting it, yeah... no contest.
the jvm obvioulsy has the leg up when it comes to tonal options and variety at any given time but just the core tone from the nitro is so much better than that of the JVM.

When i asked this question i was told to get the JVM by guys that have owned both, so I did..and now I LOVE THE JVM...but I also love my Quickrod so I still want to try a Nitro out.Just dont think I would like it more than my Quickrod but i'll give it a chance. I dont know much tool but i can try to get a JVM vid of me trying to play some...maybe someone here can make one of the nitro doing some. BTW I dont use boosts.

I have both (4 channel JVM though). The Nitro is MUCH thicker and ballsier. The JVM is much more versatile and has a ton of options. I also really like the footswitch on the JVM and how you can access 3 modes on each channel with your feet for 12 different tones. There is a lot of overlap in the JVM channels though so it's not really necessary. I'd say if you want the best sounding amp, get the Nitro. If you want more versatility, get the JVM. With some tube changes the JVM can sound really good but you can hear the massive tone, string definition and quality in the Nitro playing them back to back. It's really a no brainer for what I like to play. I choose the Nitro everytime I play. I do have to boost my Nitro to get the feel I like though and the JVM doesn't need it, it has a TON of gain. If you're playing Tool, you wouldn't need to boost the Nitro. It has more than enough gain for that type of music.

i had a couple jvm's and i sold them, at that same time i had a splawn comp with kt77 and i had to make a choice and in the end i liked the splawn tone better, i had the amps side by side and i know that the jvm had midi and is a more versatile amp and i even liked the cleans better, but heres the thing, i loved the feel of the splawn and the less compressed and more open tone and the gain just sounded better to my ears and had more clarity.
