This topic maybe doesn't belong here but I couldn't resist. Anyhoo, I am in the process of having a custom 2x12 cabinet made and have been using a V30 celestion single speaker/cab for a few years. There are lots of mixed feelings on the V30 that I am aware off. There also seems to be a lot of hype in regard to the New Eminence Red Coat series line so I looked into both the Private Jack and the Wizard speakers. I was just about to order the Wizards with my cab builder when I found a thread on the gear page in regard to a speaker comparison test. There were a few different celestions including reissues, pre-rola and vintage greenbacks a private Jack and Jim Seavalls Scumback speakers used in the comparison. By far the Private Jack was the worst sounding speaker in the test! Jim Seavall's Scumbacks were equally as good as or even better then the best sounding vintage Celestions. The Private Jack sounded like it had a blanket in front of it and was nasily sounding. I highly recommend Jim Seavall's Scumback speakers over anything I have heard. They are priced a little higher then the Eminence and most Celestions but for those who spend big money on amps these speakers are a must to better your tone!

I totally disagree. I've heard and played everything and I think the Eminence Redcoat/Governor combo is by far the warmest and most musical sounding speakers I've heard. Ask any of the 50 people standing in front of my rig at a show and they'll tell you the same thing. Everybody says they sound killer without hurting your ears.
Last week Bob Rossi from Rob Rock's band was at our show and commented how nice my cab sounded,, Loud as h3ll without sounding harsh, thats the Eminence.

Craig, Again sound is subjective... I was going to go with the Emminence Wizards which I know are a gov/jack comp but after listening to the comparison the Emi Jack sounded muffled and nasily. The scumback speakers are clones of the best sounding Celestions of the 60's. For classic rock they are the Bomb! I am aware you do more metal stuff so the emminence may work for you but honestly the Scumbacks were Eq'd very even with no annoying upper mid or ice picky highs. They just sounded real honest! Listen to some of the clips on this page. The PJ is clip # 16 and one of the Scumbacks is # 13..... scumbagamps.com/stf/

Shredder,
The link should work... It works on this end... I am the first person to look to save money on gear. I was hoping to dig the eminence but in comparison to the scumbacks the PJ sounds like crapola! I know many people like the eminence but isn't everything by comparison. I may have thought the PJ sounded fine but when comparing it to the scumback it just sounds inferior! JMO

I've never listened to a Private Jack in person. I REALLY like the Man-O-War and Governor models, though.

I have heard many people say the governor is on the dark side and to me the PJ sounded dark which is not supposed to be as dark as the Gov. Doug Roccaforte loves all the emenince speakers so I have not had the oppourtunity to play through any of these speakers in person and am strickly going by the clips. All I am saying is if you are interested in more of a classic rock sound ala, Zep, Bad Co, AC/DC and even classic VH this seems like the speaker to use!

I'LL say it again. Listen to the clip I provided..... # 16 is the PJ #'s 13, 18, 20 are the scumbacks.... I highly doubt the Governor sounds much different then the PJ if anything it will be even darker. Now the scum sounds much different. (Better) IMO. I would bet my bank account that most people that would actually listen to the difference would agree with me. Craig if you like the tone of your speakers more power to ya, thats all that matters. How do you figure I am a trouble maker? Just cause I listen to other products out there that sound really good and let others know about them. Yeah I guess Im the bad guy.

Shredder,
I have an original Naylor duel 60 amp head that I bought off ebay a few months back. I won't say it sounds better then the splawn but it is hand wired and has a great master volume. I had a splawn QR older version for about 2 weeks. My problem with it was it was too loud and lower volumes. There is something I like better about the naylor's overdrive but I really don't know what it is? The splawns are great amps but I still think its a bit off from early VH which for me is the reason I wanted to give it a try. Lots of great amps being built these days.. Its a buyers frenzy!!!!!!!
